The Manager of Professional Programs will work as part of the education team to support both teachers and students via constitutional education. The manager will particularly contribute to the Center’s educator professional development program, including, but not limited to: communicating with participating teachers, facilitating professional development sessions with educators nationwide, and collaborating on best practices for the continued development of professional learning programs. This position will support the Center’s professional learning community of educators in both the teacher advisory board and council, as well as the new Constitutional Fellows program, by working with the Director of Education to continuously evaluate the corresponding educational systems created and maintained by the Center.

The manager will assist with the delivery and continuing development of the Center’s professional development offerings. This includes leading tours, presenting materials to educators in a variety of formats, and communicating with participants through all stages of engagement. The manager will also attend education and civics conferences nationwide to share information about the Center’s educational materials and programs. This position will work collaboratively with other members of the education department to develop interactive and relevant educational programming that aligns with the Center’s goals, and with educational best practices within the field for both student and adult learners.

The workweek for this position is currently Monday – Friday; however scheduled work hours will be adjusted at times according to the needs the department and museum. Participation in certain special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays will occasionally be necessary.

This position is open to remote work, though a hybrid applicant who can devote some time to onsite work in Philadelphia is preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with the Director of Education to provide professional development workshops to educators nationwide, including sending any necessary planning materials, delivering tours, leading presentations, and communicating follow-up resources.
  • Travel to national and regional conferences nationwide to present on the Center’s educational resources.
  • Plan and prepare for the Center’s Summer Teacher Institutes, including identifying appropriate scholars, assisting in the scheduling process, and collaborating on the logistical components for each program.
  • Communicate with teachers participating in the Center’s professional development programs– including sending preparatory materials, follow-up resources, and answering questions when applicable.
  • Engage with the Center’s Teacher Advisory Council through monthly meetings, professional development opportunities, and additional educational programs.
  • Serve as a moderator for the Scholar Exchange program by engaging with students, teachers, and scholars during the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in education, history, political science, government, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in educational institution required, 7 preferred.
  • Proficient public speaker, as well as excellent writing and communications skills
  • Fiscal responsibility, including maintaining budgets and managing budget projections
  • Travel to professional education workshops and conferences, both regional and national, to present on the Center’s educational resources is a requirement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work weekends, evening hours, or holidays as needed and assigned
