Under general supervision, provide administrative support to the various clinic areas throughout Student Health & Counseling Services. Schedule appointments, verify patient eligibility, collect and post payments, review and authorize clinic charges to patient accounts. Provide follow up on referrals, both internal and external, scan medical record documents to patient electronic health record and answer questions about available services offered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting at a desk for extended periods of time viewing a CRT or computer screen.
  • Constant patient and staff traffic with telephones ringing, simultaneous conversations, and frequent interruptions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is a 9 month, partial year career position and subject to a 3-month furlough between mid-June and mid-September and reduced time during academic quarter breaks subject to operational needs.
  • This position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services. Pre-placement screening will consist infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements.-Position requires signing a statement acknowledging requirement to report child abuse (CANRA) and requirement to report suspected abuse of dependent and elders. Work occasional overtime. -Student Health & Counseling Services has two locations on campus, this position may require working at both locations on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all incoming records are reviewed by a provider.
  • Maintain professional, positive demeanor at all times, assuring composure and co-operative attitude.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience delivering excellent customer service.
  • Experience in using effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience interacting effectively and cooperatively with others; while working independently and as a team without direct supervision, exercising independent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in responding to an urgent or emergent situation, following facility Policies and Procedures.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of medical front office functions and medical terminology, including laws/regulations governing confidentiality of patient records.
  • Knowledge of working on multiple tasks simultaneously; maintaining accuracy and productivity, while staying organized, and prioritizing daily workload to assure completion within set standards.
  • Skills to spell, write legibly and utilize a keyboard.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience working with Practice Management Database and/or Electronic Medical Record system (PnC).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of current coding (e.g. ICD-10 and CPT).
  • Experience working with Practice Management Database and/or Electronic Medical Record system (PnC). -Working knowledge of medical record scanning.
  • Working knowledge of medical billing/reimbursement requirements and procedures; health insurance plans, medical terminology procedures, and health insurance industry standards; insurance plans and ability to interpret insurance language.
  • Skills to organize and prioritize daily workload to assure completion within set standard.
  • Interact effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Use independent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Learn and apply policies and procedures regarding medical records and eligibility for care.
  • Adhere to State and Federal law for Release of Information requests.
  • Perform all assigned duties accurately.
