Steel City Spine and Orthopedic Center is currently recruiting for both a full-time medical assistant position(s) at our Washington office location.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Medical Assistant serves as the initiator of clinical care before seeing the provider at our surgical practice. This essential person will utilize diplomacy, tact, and confidentiality in a professional manner. The Medical Assistant will work directly with the provider in taking vital signs, rooming patients, initiating clinical care, presenting patients HPI's, answering and/or returning phone calls, sending referrals and assisting with scheduling follow-up appointments and surgeries.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Taking medical histories
  • Taking vital signs
  • Rooming patients
  • Answering/returning phone calls as directed by the provider
  • Explaining treatment procedures and education to patients
  • Preparing patients for clinical examinations
  • Assisting the provider during examinations
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens and tests
  • Instructing patients about medication and special diets under the direction of the provider
  • Preparing and administering medications, including by intramuscular and subcutaneous injections—including spine and orthopedic specific injections, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant)
  • Transmitting prescription refills as directed
  • Occasional fluoroscopic assistance
  • Phlebotomy including lab work and urinalysis
  • Taking electrocardiograms
  • Wound care and changing dressings
  • Preparing rooms for the next patient including wipe down and cleaning of rooms - sanitizing exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Sterilization of instruments as well as preparation into sterile packs
  • Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Various administrative duties as outlined in our job description.

EXPERIENCE/ON THE JOB TRAINING:

  • Minimum of twelve (12) months of medical assisting experience.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare field and logistics of medical office flow.
  • Medical terminology is necessary.

SCHEDULE:

  • Monday through Friday, No weekends or Holidays, potential schedule flexibility
