To ensure the quality and efficiency of inpatient/outpatient coding that includes qualitative coding, abstracting, data analysis, quality control and case mix monitoring. Performs coding audits for accurate code assignments. Reviews other records for coding accuracy as necessary. Leads coding integrity-related projects including coding validation, data analysis, productivity monitoring, performance reporting and coding education.

Responsibilities:

  • Assign ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes, in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines
  • Notify HIM Director if there is insufficient information to code medical records
  • Approriately queries physicians as needed for more specific information to code to the highest level of severity and chronicity
  • Verifies and abstracts specific clinical and demographic DataDischarge Deposition

Transfer Destination
Date and respondsible party for all procedures

  • Codes medical records identified as uncoded on the Billing Readiness Report
  • Participates in UHS Coding Audits
  • Maintains credentials via CEU's, as required
  • Performs or assists with other duties assigned by department director

Requirements:

  • Education: Must be ICD-10 Trained.Knowledge of Medical Terminology, DSM-5 and abstracting systems.
  • Bachelors Degree Preferred
  • Succesful Completion of onsight coding test
  • Licensure: CCS;CCA or other AHIMA Certifications
  • Experience: 1-3 year preferred of previous medical record and coding department experience
