Molding Technician (1ST SHIFT) ($17.50) Job at Pathway Group

Under general supervision, releases patterns to molding department; cleans and paints; marks patterns with gate and riser locations and size; receives and distributes production work orders and equipment; checks status of orders and records completed jobs; operates forklift, and hand and power tools as needed; and performs related duties as assigned.

Reports to: Department Supervisor

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives molds on roller conveyors;
  • Releases patterns to molding department;
  • Cleans molds with air gun;
  • Performs air-set molding (works simultaneously on multiple molds while previous molds air dry);
  • Paints mold with painting mix;
  • Makes and cuts gatings and risers;
  • Closes molds;
  • Operates forklift as required;
  • Uses grinder to open risers;
  • Operates hoist for cleaning and painting work;
  • Distributes work orders to appropriate supervisor and lead workers on a daily basis;
  • Assigns molding equipment to be used for various jobs including Pin lift, Hunter, Squeezer, and no bake or floor molding equipment;
  • Controls release of equipment patterns and core boxes;
  • Communicates status of work orders to departmental supervisors and office personnel;
  • Operates a forklift to move materials;
  • Checks and repairs broken risers and corners for patterns as needed;
  • Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
  • Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Experience/Training/Education: Some experience in operating molding equipment is required; some experience involving production control practices and general equipment operation required. English and Spanish communication (speak/read/write) skills.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers;
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written directions and work orders;
  • Ability to use basic measuring tools;
  • Ability to use hand tools and small power tools including air gun and grinder;
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures;
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials risks and emergency response procedures;
  • Ability to operate a forklift and hoist;
  • Knowledge of production control methods and procedures and how job orders are assigned, equipment is released, and completed jobs are recorded;
  • Ability to operate power and hand tools;
  • Ability to perform minor pattern repair work; and
  • Basic English communication skills and ability to communicate moderately in Spanish.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stretch, lift, and carry weights, parts, and materials weighing 50 pounds or less;
  • Ability to move heavier objects with the assistance of co-workers or mechanical devices;
  • Ability to use safety gear including glasses, bump cap/helmet, back support, shoes, and mask as required for job at hand.;
  • Ability to operate a forklift;
  • Ability to walk/move about on uneven and/or sand-covered surfaces; and
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;
