Job Description
Being a nurse for a workers’ compensation company requires much more than clinical expertise. You also need to search for clues, analyze facts, weigh medical evidence, and collaborate with claims staff to make sure we reach the best possible outcomes.
It’s like being a nurse and detective all rolled into one.
And that’s just for starters. As SAIF’s nurse supervisor, you’ll develop and lead a team of nurse consultants who support claims adjusters, return to work consultants, and other external and internal business partners on the medical aspects of work-related injuries. You’ll balance priorities while building on your team’s strengths and identify opportunities for continuous process improvement. You’ll be a collaborator, strengthening relationships with claims, legal, and external business partners. You’ll be a resource, making sure we adapt as a team and stay on top of the latest research, evidence-based medicine, medical cost trending and treatment guidelines to support best outcomes and support claims decision making.
To do the job well requires broad clinical expertise, as well as building a solid understanding of the legal and regulatory issues involved in claims management. We’re looking for an experienced leader and skilled communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities
  • Set clear direction and objectives that are aligned with SAIF’s vision and mission. Drive employee engagement and team effectiveness through effective communication and by creating and maintaining an environment where individuals are empowered, motivated, and where the importance of collaboration within and across divisions / teams is fully understood and encouraged. Recognize individual differences while focusing on team cohesion. Develop and sustain an inclusive collaborative team environment to support diverse team members throughout the division.
  • Give input into the preparation of the operational budget, monitor expenditures throughout the year, and manage variances to ensure budgetary guidelines are met while upholding high standards of customer service excellence.
  • Ensure work methods maximize efficiency and use of resources, i.e., time, budget, equipment, and staff.
  • Identify educational opportunities to maintain nurse consultant currency on industry and technology changes.
  • Coordinate nurse consultant resources for service as a liaison and educational resource for external customers. Prepare reports reflecting nurse consultant operations, activities, and results.
  • Research and recommend improvements for SAIF medical programs. Collaborate with groups conducting evidence based research, outcome studies, and treatment profiles relevant to workers’ compensation.
  • Arrange or conduct training to meet individual and team needs and ensure a high level of technical competency for staff.
  • Participate in evaluating and developing department objectives and strategies.
  • Build a team culture in which differences are embraced. Regularly expose team members to diverse perspectives and leverage differences to strengthen workgroup performance.
  • Model adaptability and consistently seek to understand other world views, perspectives, and approaches to work.
  • Continually sustain the Inclusive Leadership Competencies (ILC) through the Navigator level on an annual basis.
Qualifications
Required:
  • A current registered nurse license with the ability to obtain an Oregon registered nurse license within a specified timeframe is required.
Recommended:
  • Five years recent, varied, clinical or case management experience
  • One or more medical areas relevant to workers' compensation claims management
  • Two years experience supervising professional staff or managing a business unit
  • Professional certification by a nationally recognized governing board or specialty body is desirable.
  • Other combinations of education and experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job will also be considered.

Compensation & Benefits
Typical hiring range:‏‏‎ ‎$106,002‏‏‎ ‎-‏‏‎ ‎$129,558.‏‏‎ ‎The pay range for this position is annually based on a full-time schedule. Actual compensation will be determined using factors such as experience, skills, training, certifications & education.
