Minimum qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • 1 year of relevant experience

Qualification substitutions:

  • Current, valid certification as a Nurse Aide (CNA) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.
  • Current, valid licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) or any state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact will substitute for the experience requirement

Job description:

This position works under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse and assists with psychiatric and medical nursing care of mentally ill patients; observes, reports, and documents patient's behavior, physical condition, and reactions to medications and treatment; and provides input into planning patient treatment plans; monitors and intervenes to ensure a safe and therapeutic patient milieu; and provides immediate crisis intervention when indicated.

  • Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, engage with patients to establish and maintains a therapeutic relations which supports the patient's psychiatric recovery and mental health.
  • Supports and assists patient in accomplishing activities of daily living (ADLs) through monitoring teaching, supporting and direct assistance, when needed.

Shift Times: Shifts at the facility are 8 hours, 10, or 12 hour shifts hour shifts. Depending on the FTE of the position they are selected for, staff will be required to work a set number of days within a two week cycle.

Shift times available include day, night, and graveyard shifts. Part-time employees are required to work three shifts per week.

The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is one of two state psychiatric hospitals providing inpatient behavioral health services in Colorado. The vision of CMHHIFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious, and persistent mental health illness within the resources available. The hospital has 94 civil adult inpatient beds and 44 forensic beds. Medical care, rehabilitation services (physical, occupational and speech therapy) and clinical programming are available to patients based on their treatment needs.
