Continuing with the theme of providing service to others, the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is one of five federally funded TRIO programs hosted by Creighton University. The EOC targets individuals ages 19 and over, who are low-income and potential first-generation college students. The primary goal of this program is to provide information and support to adults seeking to continue their education.


Job Summary:


The full-time EOC Outreach Coordinator will support the work of the EOC program hosted at Creighton University and will report to the EOC Director. A robust focus of the position is on recruitment for potential program participants 19 years of age and older who reside in Douglas and Sarpy Counties in Nebraska, and Pottawatomie County, Iowa. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the successful implementation of the EOC project by conducting outreach in the target area with the goal of identifying, selecting, and providing services to a minimum of 450 participants annually.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide educational assistance to low-income and first-generation adults over the age of 19, who reside in Omaha or the surrounding area
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with representatives in the host institution and educational, community, and faith-based organizations
  • Implement approved recruitment strategies within the target area
  • Recruit new program clients by conducting workshops on campus and out in the community
  • Create relationships with community partners and maintain relationships with existing community partners
  • Maintain annual contact with previous clients
  • Assist clients with enrollment into Adult Basic Education Programs including GED and conduct GED orientation workshops
  • Advise participants on matters of college preparation, academic success, career exploration, personal development, and financial literacy
  • Assist clients with completing college admissions applications, FAFSA, Federal Financial Aid and/or appeals and loan defaults
  • Stay current with catalog and program requirements of colleges and universities in Omaha and surrounding areas
  • Develop, maintain, and submit timely and accurate reports on personal and participant activities and progress
  • Refer participants to agencies or other TRIO programs that provide services not offered by the project

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or another related field

  • Two or more years' experience in outreach and recruitment

  • Knowledge of the unique needs of low-income, first-generation, at-risk, special-needs, and other under-represented populations

  • Ability to interview potential participants and assess educational, personal, and financial needs

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Experience facilitating workshops, seminars and/or presentations

  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments

  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills

  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events

  • Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a related field

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of academic and financial aid advising.

  • Prior academic advising or student services experience at a 2- or 4-year public institution

  • Similar characteristics to the participant population being served

  • Experience with Blumen Data Base
