About the St. Mary of Celle Program

The St. Mary of Celle Program provides a nurturing home and treatment environment for expectant and parenting young women, who have a history of childhood trauma and lack the structure of a biological family to teach or support them and who, by virtue of the presence of mental illness resulting from childhood trauma, cannot manage a less restrictive environment.

About the Parenting Coach Position

Provides assigned clients with parenting and child development related consultation, remedial and skill development support, and counseling assistance. Oversees and facilitates the parenting education and skill development programming provided to Maryville Academy employees and clients. Coordinates the family activities of assigned clients, ensuring relevance, applicability, and consistency with parenting treatment goals. Serves as a role model and mentor to clients in the practical application of newly acquired positive parenting techniques. Assists families with their transition into Maryville Academy Madden Center and community.

Essential Functions

  • Establishes rapport and develops a therapeutic relationship with assigned clients.

  • Provides parenting related individual and group counseling services.

  • Completes a comprehensive history and assessment of past parenting beliefs and practices.

  • Continually reviews and revises Madden Center parenting program ensuring that it is research/best practice based and relevant to the women served.

  • Provides parenting education services through individual client encounters, classroom/group activities, staff consultation/training, etc.

  • Develops parenting related goals and objectives for inclusion in client treatment plans.

  • Coordinates the transition planning process for children being admitted to Madden Center and/or reuniting with their mothers at Madden Center.

  • Provides therapeutic interventions to clients experiencing parenting related crises offering empathetic support and assistance with problem solving.

  • Regularly provides the treatment team with timely updates on the parenting performance status of assigned clients, recommends parenting skill development interventions, and provides clients with authorized/ordered remedial service documented in the treatment plan.

  • Documents relevant parenting information in a qualitative and timely manner consistent with applicable regulatory and organizational guidelines/expectations.

  • Plans, coordinates, and provides group instruction to enhance positive parenting skills, techniques, philosophy, principles and goals of clients.

  • Provides resource and referral information to clients and coordinates follow –through.

  • Assists clients in day-to-day routines to enrich parenting. Observing, coaching, and assisting parents in hands-on learning.

  • Identifies/develops and administers standardized tools for assessing changes in client parenting beliefs and knowledge of skills.

  • Provides statistical and other research information as requested.

Other Functions:

  • Reports all significant incidents following prescribed procedures, protocols, and processes. Initiated associated written reports in a timely and qualitative manner.

  • Maintains the parenting bulletin board and parenting activity schedule.

  • Develops and maintains a parenting database in collaboration with community organizations.

  • Communicates in a professional manner (both in writing and orally) that promotes teamwork, enhances, clinical skill development, and advances the parenting abilities of parents.

  • Represents Maryville Academy Madden Center at various community functions and activities.

  • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of community resources in order to facilitate clients obtaining outside services and support.

Minimum Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Associate Degree – Child Development or CDA.

  • One (1) year previous counseling experience, required.

  • Management of aggressive behavior training within six (6) months of hire.

  • Heart saver AED (Infant, child, and adult CPR) certified through the American Heart Association within three (3) months of hire.

  • Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training to be completed within first 30 days of employment.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Must conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands

  • Required to sit, stand, walk, bend and drive for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.

  • Required to lift, move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds.

  • Must possess ability to provide physical restraint to youth.

  • Must have the visual, hearing and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential job functions as defined above.

Environment and Scheduling

  • Work is performed in and in association with Maryville program settings, as well as, but not limited to schools, recreational facilities, court rooms, hospitals, correctional/detention institutions, and various community settings.

  • Duties may involve contact with youth who may be threatening, aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • 24 hour on-call responsibilities.

  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary.

  • May be scheduled to work on weekends and/or holidays.
