Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Teen Site Coordinator, the Teen Tech Mentor will assist in the facilitation of programs for teens including but not limited to podcasting, social media content creation, sound recording, and maker programs. The Teen Tech Mentor leads workshops, mentors teens, and supports digital literacy initiatives for teens. This position is responsible for coordinating and running the Teen Tech Lab, including scheduling technology and maker workshops and Tech Lab open hours, as well as maintaining the equipment in Tech labs. Mentors will work closely with the Digital Literacy Coordinator and Digital Literacy Lead Instructors on developing and implementing workshops.

This position is responsible for the lending and scheduling of tech equipment during Tech Lab hours. Maintains equipment in Teen Tech Labs, including IPads, PCs, and 3-D printers. The Teen Tech Mentor updates or troubleshoots equipment with the IT department. This position will work with the Teen Site Coordinator to schedule technology workshops, lab hours, and larger program initiatives. Assists Teen Center Coordinator in completing monthly reports and data collection as well as completing and submitting incident reports if/when necessary. This position will collect and organize attendance information for daily programming within the teen space. Performs other duties as required.

Position Information

  • Monday to Friday afternoons with the possibility of Saturdays, year-round with a maximum of 17 hours per week.
  • The rate of pay is $30.00 per hour.
  • Part-time positions do not offer any medical or health benefits.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Computer Science, or related field required with a minimum of two years of experience in implementing interactive youth or technology training programs or a minimum of 60 college credits, in a related field, with a minimum of three years of experience in implementing interactive youth programs or technical training required.

Advanced proficiency in technology, including MS Office; Google Apps; Mac, PC, and mobile platforms Demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following areas: web development and design; Adobe Creative Suite; 3D printing; 2D game design; data analysis and visualization; learning management systems; physical computing; Java, Python, or comparable programming languages. Proven ability for mastering emerging technologies and staying informed on current trends.

A demonstrated desire to work with youth. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Must have excellent attention to detail and familiarity with diverse customers’ needs.
