PAYROLL TEAM MEMBER - Mount Airy, NC

We have a current opening in our Payroll Department. This team member will assist the Payroll Manager in the efficient operation of processing payroll. They will perform duties related to payroll statistics, maintaining payroll control records, and calculating payrolls, in accordance with federal, state and local laws.

We manufacture and market prestressed PC-strand and welded wire reinforcement, including engineered structural mesh, concrete pipe reinforcement and standard welded wire reinforcement for concrete reinforcement applications. The company operates ten manufacturing facilities in eight states.

About You

The person we are looking for is detail oriented and has some experience with payroll processing or experience in a similar field. You are comfortable with periods of high energy, understanding that tight deadlines are a part of the job, but you also enjoy a great sense of teamwork between the payroll team and the HR group in the plants.

To perform well in this role, you will need to:

  • Gather and enter information to accurately process payroll for various groups
  • Process direct deposit transfers, unemployment information, employment verification, and weekly balance of tax information
  • Calculate all manual checks and control voids, rewrites and stop payments
  • Review and ensure accurate interpretation of state, federal and local tax regulations in states where we operate
  • Share responsibility of company-wide monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting and the balancing, production and reporting of Form W-2s and applicable tax forms, as needed
  • Share responsibility of company-wide payroll software maintenance and modification of current set up to meet ongoing needs
  • Interact with internal technical support on problem solving and system testing, as needed
  • Answer telephone, file, and participate in special projects and tasks, team projects, and informative seminars
  • Share responsibility for setting up the annual payroll calendar, running reports for auditors and maintaining the procedures manual
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to management for opportunities to streamline and automate existing processes; contribute technically and analytically to the achievement of these solutions

Qualifications to be considered for the role:

  • Minimum High School Diploma (or equivalent); Associate degree preferred; or a combination of education and applicable experience
  • A minimum of 3 years work related experience is preferred with knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices, federal and state laws governing the taxation and reporting of wages, and preparation of federal and state unemployment tax returns and information statements.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Must possess and be able to apply written and oral communications skills, analytical capabilities.
  • Oracle payroll experience preferred.
