Acts as a role model to persons with a mental health and/or substance use disorder in order to facilitate recovery through community-based services that promote recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, well-being, and independence. Utilizing a trauma informed approach and diversity competence, Peer Recovery Support services are based upon relationships that support a person’s ability to promote their own recovery.

Peer Recovery Support Specialist Job Duties:

• Mentor individuals in recovery by reassuring individuals about the reality of the recovery process, promote personal empowerment, and set and achieve goals via a consumer developed recovery plan
• Coordinate and facilitate recovery related groups as needed to address symptoms and behaviors through processes that assist an individual
• Support development of Life Skills as needed such as budgeting, and connecting to community resources
• Model personal responsibility for recovery
• Teach skills to effectively navigate the health care delivery system to effectively and efficiently utilize services
• Assist with accessing and developing natural support systems in the community
• Promote coordination and linkage among providers
• Conduct outreach as needed
• Coordinate or assist in crisis interventions and stabilization as needed
• Attend and participate in treatment team, department and agency meetings as required
• Assist individuals in the development of empowerment skills through self-advocacy and activities that mitigate discrimination and inspire hope.
• Meet the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Joint Commission standards for service delivery
• Complete required documentation and productivity requirements per agency policy.
