Job Summary:

This position provides assistance and clerical support to the public health programs. Duties may include data entry in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), assisting and greeting clients, scheduling appointments, coding procedures and diagnoses, preparing and submitting medical claims and bills for services provided among other general office tasks.

Staring Wage: $20.65 per hour, full-time with benefits.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Answers questions in person and by telephone regarding departmental procedures and requirements, program requirements and other activities. Takes messages and schedules appointments for other staff, testing and for programs or clinics.
  • Coordinates client initial interview, screens for insurance coverage, gathers background information and assists with completion of various forms and applications.
  • Processes applications to verify client or facility information and ensures accuracy and completeness. Contacts clients to verify and update information, make and confirm appointments and refers clients to other providers.
  • Orders and maintains supplies for various programs.
  • Assists in the maintenance of department filing systems by preparing, sorting, processing and filing a variety of forms, applications, documents and records in accordance with departmental procedures and guidelines. Retrieves materials from system and conducts searches for necessary documentation.
  • Accurately posts cash receipts to appropriate accounts.
  • Greets and visitors and directs the visitor to the appropriate department/person/building.
  • Performs clerical support duties for the Public Health team.
  • Documents accurately the ordering, inventory and return of vaccines and medications.
  • Documents client interaction, follow up phone calls and activities related to productivity.
  • Ability to document in multiple databases, provide reports to county, state and fiduciary stakeholders.
  • Supports program development and maintenance of a program manual; updating policy and procedures in compliance with Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation minimum program requirements (MPR's).
  • Ability to respond to emergency public health issues, may require occasional travel for work and/or modified work hours and work sites.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • One (1) year of experience in a clerical position, preferably in health care.
  • One (1) year of experience with customer service and public relations.
  • One (1) year of experience with computer software and equipment including the use of a multiple line phone system.
  • Ability to interact positively with a diverse population.
