Plant Process Operations Specialist

NJDWSC has an immediate opening at our offices in Wanaque, NJ, for a Plant Process Operations Specialist to
join the Water Treatment Plant department. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the continued
reliable delivery of the highest-quality potable water to the over 3.5 million residents of Northern New Jersey.

General Purpose:

To interface with, and be a liaison between the Water Treatment Plant (WTP), Residual Treatment Facility
(RTF), Lab and Watershed. Must have an expertise in Excel and Crystal Reports with experience using complex
SQL database queries to mine data and produce reports. A general understanding of water treatment plant
operations is also required.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Interface
a. General Operations understanding, especially of WTP and RTF via waste stream discharges and

recycling to WTP.

b. Monthly Operating Reports (T-4) compilation and completion. Must have analytical and problem-
solving skills, such as creating, modifying, formatting and filtering reports; writing formulas,
creating custom functions and using conditional formatting. Knowledge of parameters, sub reports
and cross tab reports. Advanced understanding of Excel, possessing the ability to use spreadsheets,
graphing, tables, calculations, and automation efficiently to process large quantities of data.
Familiar with formulas, VBA programming and other Excel features for handling multifaceted tasks.

c. Ability to perform jar tests to determine the results.

2. Residual Treatment Facility (RTF) Interface
a. RTF quality control processes.
b. Process control and unit efficiency for each step of RTF operation: Equalization, Thickening,

Storage, Belt Pressing emphasizing an all-inclusive approach.
c. Settling rates and jar testing.
d. SOP writing.
e. Assist in real time Polymer dose application at treatment points.
f. Model and Mass Balance of unit processes WTP and RTF (solids).


3. Watershed Interface / Reservoir and Depth Reports

a. Data accumulation and input to reports for monthly evaluation of streams to reservoir and depth
sampling.

4. Special Reports / Assignments as needed

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Chemical/Process Engineering, or Environmental Science.
• Modeling and Mass Balance approach to plant operations.

  • Water and wastewater licenses, helpful but not required.
  • Effective verbal/written communication skills, self-motivated, well organized, effective team player

with the ability to work independently.
• Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and Crystal Reports.
