MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master’s Degree in Theology, Divinity or Pastoral Care/Counseling required.

2. Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required.

3. Certification by an appropriate clinical pastoral agency such as Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Association of Jewish Chaplains or equivalent.

4. Solid standing within his or her denomination, as evidenced by ecclesiastical endorsement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Minimum of five years of clinical pastoral experience in a healthcare setting preferred

2. Documented ethics education to meet the hospital Ethics Committee core competencies

EXPERIENCE:

1. Leadership/Management experienced preferred.

2. Pastoral theology that is contemporary, functional and integrated into professional practice.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Ensures adequate staffing and productivity of department by means of creating and adjusting monthly staffing schedules; requesting the filling of vacant positions, interviewing applicants, hiring of suitable candidate and providing and/or overseeing departmental orientation of new hires.

2. Responsible for daily work assignments

3. Completing time and attendance records for bi-weekly submission to payroll

4. Complete annual performance evaluation for staff chaplains and associate staff chaplains

5. Create and submit annual departmental competency plan; complete departmental annual competency evaluation for staff chaplains and associate staff chaplains.

6. Schedule and facilitate staff meetings.

7. Schedule and oversee quarterly memorial services for families of deceased patients.

8. Participates in self-evaluation and develops a plan for professional development based on personal goals/departmental goals/strategic plans.

9. Responsible for the development and implementation of a continuum of pastoral services aimed at meeting the goals and objectives as outlined in the Standards of Practice for Chaplains in the Acute Care Settings.

10. Ensures that all requests for pastoral care are responded to in a timely manner

11. Oversee the staffing, development, evaluation, and education of members of the pastoral care staff including volunteers and community clergy.

12. Promotes and supports an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care within the organization.

13. Oversees and facilitates departmental performance improvement by participating on appropriate hospital committees.

14. Oversees information presented concerning Pastoral Care Services in general hospital orientation and annual updating.

15. Conducts educational programs for the staff.

16. Attends and participates in leadership meetings.

17. Develop, coordinate and/or facilitate public worship and spiritual practices appropriate to diverse settings and needs.

18. Interfaces with the community and local clergy to provide pastoral services and build community relationships.

19. Maintains established departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives including quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection hazardous material control and emergency management

20. Accepts daily pastoral care responsibilities as needed
