Support for Early Learning and Families (SELF) collaborates with the Educational Service District (ESD) 112 in Vancouver, WA to provide staffing and talent management for Child Care Centers primarily in Southwest WA. Our staff serve infants through school age children and their families. We employ over 100 employees and are dedicated to ensuring every child in our community thrives. Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the Center Director of a school age program in order to cover vacations, extended leaves, absences, etc.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate child centered curriculum as needed.
  • Plan the program to meet the needs of the individual child with concerns for their interests, disabilities, special talents, cultural background and individual styles.
  • Develop and follow class schedule which includes staff responsibilities.
  • Plan and set up the environment of the room with well-defined interest areas. Set up toys and materials so that they are accessible to children.
  • Post and implement appropriate guidance techniques and current lesson plans in the classroom.
  • Supervise, interact, and play with children during assigned times of responsibilities.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, clean and healthy room environment, including administering first aid and handling emergencies.
  • Establish and maintain positive communication and confidentiality using collaborative methods to problem solve and interact with families, children, and staff.
  • Maintain all center records in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Provide direction to child care assistants, informing supervisor if problems arise.
  • Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, and workshops.
  • Complete child assessments as required throughout the program year.
  • Support and follow the direction of the Operations Center Director.
  • Follow USDA guidelines (including meal counts and service procedures).
  • Other duties as assigned to support the success of SELF and Early Learning Programs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of 12 college credits in any 100-level or above college coursework or equivalent and complete an additional 18 college credits in any 100-level or above coursework within five years.
  • Two years successful experience working with children.
  • 18 years of age or older (Department of Children Youth and Families minimum licensing requirement).
  • Ability to work within a team and to work effectively with other people.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner.
  • Ten hours of continuing education required annually per child care licensing requirements. Completion of 20 hours of ECE training required annually for progression on the salary schedule.
  • Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a portable background check (PBC) and clearance through the Department of Children Youth and Families prior to starting employment, paid by SELF.
  • Valid certification in Child/Adult CPR, first-aid, HIV/Blood Borne Pathogens training and current food handler’s card, paid by employee.
  • Valid negative TB test completed within the previous twelve months along with an initial health exam completed by medical provider showing you are free from communicable diseases.
  • Provide documentation showing immunity to the MMR.
  • Provide proof of COVID-19 Vaccination or have an approved medical/religious exception on file.
  • Participation in the State Training and Registry System (STARS) program required; Child Care Basics training required prior to employment.

Physical and Strength Demands:

  • Travel throughout SW Washington in order to cover for planned, or unplanned, Director absences.
  • Requires the ability to move or traverse about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, center activities, etc.
  • Moderate or frequent exposure to loud noises, outside weather elements, and temperature changes.
  • Lifting requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects including the human body.
  • Job involves sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and/or pulling. Position involves physical mobility with or without reasonable accommodation to perform essential functions of the job.
