Main Market Co-Op is seeking a part-time produce clerk to be a part of our team. If you have a positive attitude, great customer service and some knowledge of produce, and/or some farming experience this is an ideal opportunity for you. Main Market Co-op is in downtown Spokane, and specializes in locally sourced, organic, sustainable products for our deli, bakery, and grocery store.

The produce clerk reports directly to the produce manager. As shift times may vary, open availability is required. The number of hours will be from 16-24 hours/week depending on demand with more hours in other departments available if you are willing to cross train. Candidates must be able to work independently and available weekends.

Produce clerk responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides excellent customer service by maintaining knowledge of produce; provides information to customers regarding use and preparation
  • Orders produce as requested
  • Receives produce deliveries, ensuring order and invoice accuracy
  • Processes produce (including hydrating, trimming, packaging and wrapping)
  • Stocks: rotates, maintains quality and display, utilizes proper signage
  • Maintains back-stock areas according to department standards, ensuring food safety and quality
  • Prices invoices, if requested, according to procedure
  • Takes initiative for solving customer problems
  • Ensures commitments to customers are met

Required Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with general produce items and quality control
  • Willingness to learn
  • Positive attitude
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to meet produce display requirements with excellent attention to detail
  • Can work autonomously
  • Knowledge of food safety procedures
  • Ability to work as a valuable team member
  • Punctual regular attendance
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds consistently and safely

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of natural foods and dietary restrictions
  • Experience working with local farmers and knowledge of sustainability practices

Wage is $15.00-16.50/hour DOE. We offer a Paid Time Off package and employee discount for goods/food purchased.
