OVERVIEW:
The Production Manager leads the Technical Packaging department in South Deerfield while continuously exceeding established S,Q,D,C,I targets. Creates and sustains a positive work environment that has high levels of safety accountability, employee engagement, high morale, focus on data analytics, and collaborative interaction across all levels of the organization. Drives operational excellence in facilitating daily management 6S and operational efficiencies. Promotes a collaborative environment, to ensure effective communication and interaction across shifts, departments, and levels to achieve business results.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Drives continuous improvement education and events to ensure Safety, Efficiency, Elimination of Waste, Quality, and Delivery goals are achieved.
  • Implements, educates, and successfully sustains a Daily Management process which consists of; Tier meetings, SQCDI management/ triggers for action, 6S, Root Cause Analysis, hour by hour monitoring, visual management, leader standard work and productivity improvements.
  • Monitors department KPIs and reports performance at Daily Operations Review meetings understanding and acknowledging root causes of misses and taking action to improve.
  • Champions safety across the facility, maintains safe and clean work environments by educating and directing employees on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources. Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Assuring that raw materials/components are effectively used, minimizing scrap/waste, and ensuring materials are handled and transacted properly in the production department in accordance with Pelican’s inventory control management policies
  • Reviewing production equipment, focusing on utilization rates while identifying potential bottlenecks and replacement needs.
  • Drive cost reduction and continuous improvement in the attainment of Pelican’s business goals.
  • Lead the production teams to optimize material flow, reduce waste, inventory and lead time throughout the operation.
  • Works closely with Planning to determine significant shifts in volume and proposes plans for an increase/ decrease in staffing, change in shifts, ramp up/ ramp down plans. Works closely with HR to develop and execute plans.
  • Assure customer orders are satisfied timely, meeting or exceeding all delivery requirements and meeting OTD to schedule requirements.
  • Champions Lean methods to improve production methods and equipment performance, and drives changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.
  • Promotes a safe work environment through Safety Audits and reports potential safety hazards to the EHS Manager with immediate implementation of Prevention Reoccurrence Plans to eliminate all safety concerns.
  • Ensures supervisors are role models in safety and they conduct all injury investigations in their department, driving root cause analysis when applicable utilizing Practical Problem Solving Methodology.
  • Performs as a positive role model, interpreting and enforcing Company policies and procedures to employees. Resolves personnel issues by analyzing data, investigating situations properly, identifying solutions and recommending action.
  • Accountable for Leading 5S/6S initiatives by setting department standards and driving continuous improvement of the work areas and enforcing discipline to follow standards. Coaches team leads and team members to understand and embrace it as a part of the operating culture.
  • Champions and coaches Tier 1 & Tier 2 Layered Process Audits – continuously coaching Supervisors and team members to follow and improve standards while driving improvements and facilitating action item completion
  • Analyzes and resolves quality problems, excessive scrap and/or assists employees in solving quality problems and implements corrective actions.
  • Initiates and fosters plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals and to maintain a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Accountable for Manufacturing staff recruitment by providing oversight of the selection and orientation of new team members. Accomplishes results by maintaining the interview process, including providing assessments on applicant's skill sets and recommendations on wage requirements.
  • Accountable for ensuring production and support teams identify root cause of production issues and implementing the corrective actions as well as seeing that the corrective actions become the norm in production
  • Coaches and develops production supervisors and team members to increase knowledge of the operation, increase flexibility, develop lean knowledge and promote increased operator ownership and accountability.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or other technical related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5years production or plant management experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
  • Experience with coaching, teaching and implementing Operational Excellence and Lean Principles
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Experience with SAP, TPS, ISO9001:2008 is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Must be driven to maintain and seek to improve upon quality and production standards.
  • Must possess an awareness and understanding of performance against budget.
  • Customer focus and awareness of customer needs—Internal and External
  • “Hands on” & Floor-Based approach, capable of taking a lead role in floor-based problem-solving efforts.
  • Excellent teamwork and teambuilding skills with proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Accountable for up to 250 direct and indirect reports
  • Actively supports and complies with Pelican’s objectives, guidelines and commitment to Quality and Safety, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
  • Must be able to coordinate resources of peers to resolve issues, make decisions and meet objectives. Must not work in a silo and operate with a problem solving mindset.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours. Must be able to support all shifts and work evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ensures that staff is contributing at maximum potential through rigorous hiring practices and an emphasis on training and development initiatives, including coaching and counseling direct reports in their performance and professional development, with final authority for approving pay increases, hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
  • Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
  • Establishes challenging, productive and achievable goals for direct reports; measure results by establishing checkpoints to track progress.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
