Purpose of Role: Support all aspects of grinding and fitting parts so that they can be seamlessly installed in the field.

The Grinder / Fitter must stand at a worktable and use assorted hand held grinders to remove excess metal from both the inside and outside of castings in order to meet gaging requirements. The hand held grinders used vary in weight from 6 lbs. to 12 lbs. The Fitter utilizes a hoist to manipulate different style castings varying in weight from less than 100 lbs. to more than 1000 lbs. in order to get the casting into the proper position for fitting/gaging. Casting fit is verified by various gages and thickness feeler gages as required. After casting fit is verified it is placed into/onto a bin/pallet and removed via forklift.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  • Operate hand held grinders to safely remove excess metal from inside and outside castings
  • Verify fit accuracy by correctly using gaging with different thickness feeler gages
  • Utilize hoist to manipulate castings to the proper position for fitting/gaging
  • Keeping track of the part Identification
  • Correctly fill out shift pitch board to include current pitch and reasons if pitch is missed
  • Keep work station in good order for the next shift/operator
  • Occasionally the Fitter will move by hand gaging weighing up to 50 pounds
