Program Director: The Program Director oversees all programs and events related to the summer and year-round camper experience. This broad-based position includes but is not limited to: creating and managing special events, assisting with social media and blogging, engaging alumni, producing Camp-branded retreats, and overseeing the day-to-day operation of our summer camp programming. This part-time to start (full-time starting summer), year-round position is based in San Diego, CA. Summers are spent at camp in Angelus Oaks, California; private living quarters are provided.

Year-Round:

  • Develop training handbooks and staff training sessions for Specialists and Unit Programming Staff to ensure quality programming during summer
  • Schedule all necessary program area trainings and inspections to ensure all specialists have the appropriate certifications to run assigned areas
  • Create and maintain the camper recruitment calendar
  • Coordinate camper recruitment events at local JCCs, synagogues, and other community venues
  • Represent Camp Mountain Chai at camper recruitment events including, but not limited to, camp fairs, synagogue presentations, and meet & greets as assigned, traveling when necessary
  • Plan and organize CMC-sponsored retreats, reunions, serving as main point of contact for campers, families, and alumni regarding CMC events
  • In collaboration with Associate Director, conduct pre-season staff interviews as determined
  • Execute and track social media activity and performance metrics (web analytics, social media insights, etc.)
  • Develop, create, and own Master Calendar and Master Schedule • Plan all out-of-camp experiences
  • Begin work on major camp events and all-camp programs
  • Communicate with the Camp Director and summer staff to discuss program ideas, banquet themes, etc.
  • Oversee the Camp Store, including sales, inventory, and designing new items

Summer:

  • Serve as primary and direct supervisor for AULs and most specialists. Perform regular evaluations for these staff and serve as a support and resource for them
  • Oversee the development of, manage, and maintain all summer program schedules to ensure the smooth operation of the day-to-day summer camp program
  • Oversee Banquets and all camp-wide programming in conjunction with Assistant Program Director
  • Liaise with community partners and visiting summer groups – planning the schedule, logistics and details for their visits
  • Ensure smooth running of specialty areas, including curriculum development in relevant areas
  • Provide programming resources to AULs and Specialists
  • Plan and facilitate staff recreational, educational, and mentorship programming
  • Develop and manage staff committees
  • Coordinate days off for staff
  • Organize and oversee the master schedule and master calendar
  • Ensure all program write-ups, evaluations and supply requisitions are completed in a timely fashion
  • Ensure all necessary supplies are ordered/gathered for all programs
  • Manage camp program equipment and supplies including inventorying and organization before, during, and after summer Alumni:
  • Deepen alumni outreach and engagement using various forms of communication, social media and technology
  • Organize alumni events and visits to camp
  • Work with development team to identify Alumni giving opportunities
  • Work with development team to produce Alumni Newsletter

Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain awareness, knowledge and understanding of current societal trends, including Jewish camping, child development, social media, and customer service
  • Participate in regular strategy sessions with camp management team to identify and address ongoing areas of focus
  • Participate in and assist with the implementation of the Annual Fundraiser and other special events
  • Work with the retreat center team as necessary
  • Maintain positive working relationships with staff, clients, and vendors
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player
  • Interact effectively with a wide diversity of people and support the agency’s mission
  • Lead by example and serve as a teacher/mentor to staff
  • Multitask while working in a fast paced environment
  • Be well organized and able to prioritize work, problem solve, make decisions, and meet scheduled deadlines under pressure
  • Ask for appropriate help when needed
  • Follow oral and written directions
  • Complete tasks and projects that require a high level of skill and/or attention to detail
  • Follow projects through to completion

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have strong English language skills and the ability to read, write, and verbally communicate at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
  • Operate a computer, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CampMinder (preferred), Constant Contact (preferred), Google Apps, and the ability to learn and utilize new software programs
  • Work some nights and weekends (2-3 times monthly)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, recreation, non-profit management or a related field
  • 2-3 Years’ professional work experience in Camping or equivalent experience
  • Manage physical activities such as standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching as well as daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
