MHA is hiring immediately for a Program Director. The Program Director provides guidance and direction to residents in MHA’s GRIT program in Holyoke, which is a 16 bed co-occurring substance use and mental health program for individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, 18 years of age and over. Oversees resident activities to ensure conformance with program policies. Participates in ensuring that the day to day operations of the program milieu support the culture of recovery and is both trauma and gender informed. Responsible for implementing interventions identified in each resident's treatment plan. Supports residents with the completion of activities of daily living including meal preparation, household maintenance, transportation, and active engagement in recovery and relapse-prevention planning.


Program Director Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor services and treatment to ensure the physical and mental well-being, safety, development and quality care for participants that is in compliance with Association, Federal, and State policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain regular contact, either in person or by telephone, with Program Supervisors; ensure frequent and free exchange of information, advise and assist in problem solving, provide direction, clarify issues and provide other similar guidance in managing participants' activities.
  • Assess training needs of staff, coordinate training and monitor attendance. Participate in the hiring and training of staff.
  • Evaluate, assess and monitor performance of direct reports. Conduct supervisory sessions and performance evaluations. Develop appropriate training and performance plans.
  • Maintain effective intra-agency communication with direct supervisor, Human Resources, Nursing, Fiscal, IT, Quality Improvement, Clinical departments as well as APG.
  • Perform intake assessments for participants entering designated residential programs. . Monitor transition in and out of program.
  • Pursue activities to enhance personal and professional growth. Attend various workshops and training programs. Participate in internal and external committees, task forces, etc.
  • Promote and integrate Agency mission, values, philosophy and principles.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as responsibilities necessitate or as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide administrative oversight of all staff and program documentation required by fiscal, human rights, and human resources departments.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation. Promptly respond to calls, advise staff accordingly and document.
  • Exposure or experience with individuals who have psychiatric disabilities or addiction.
  • Oversee the overall facilities budget.
  • Oversee Program staffing to ensure compliance and adequate coverage.
  • Ensure smooth and timely communication between all disciplines involved with supporting a participant ( i.e. MHA nursing, MHA’s Clinical Director, DMH, hospitals, primary care, and psychiatrists.

Program Director Required Education and Experience

Residential management experience is required.

Experience working in a community residential setting strongly preferred.

Experience working within the LGBTQ+ community strongly preferred.

Experience with group facilitation preferred.

Master’s Degree Preferred, Bachelor’s Degree Accepted with relevant experience.
