Job Summary:


This position will report to the Senior Manager, Internal Manufacturing Quality and will support capital projects across the network. This position will work closely with the broader QRC team, Engineering Team, and plant site teams.


Serve as quality leader on cross functional capital project teams responsible for designing and implementing capital projects. Ability to undertake assignments of very high complexity. Serve as Technical resource for Manufacturing, Engineering, and broader Hershey supply chain, providing leadership and guidance in the areas of Global Food Safety Standards, company food safety and quality standards, hygienic/sanitary design and other related matters. Must have a sound working knowledge of Hershey’s quality system requirements.

Project Manager is a Quality Assurance “generalist” with knowledge in all areas of food safety, quality, and regulatory.

This position is within the Quality and Regulatory Compliance Department in the US Region. This is a corporate based position.


Role Responsibilities:


70% - Capital Project Leadership:

  • Serve as quality leader on cross functional teams designing and implementing capital projects across the network. These projects could include building a new facility, a plant expansion, a new line in an existing facility, etc. This role will ensure all food safety, food quality, and regulatory requirements are met in design and start up of these projects. This role will ensure proper food industry hygienic design standards and company engineering design standards are being met.

20% - Business Support:

  • Generalist with broad based knowledge in multiple areas including regulations, industry practices, corporate wide quality systems, development of policies and procedures, and ability to implement as required. Expected to provide leadership for specific programs, project management, training, and coaching of other Specialists in the specified area of expertise. Support other projects (non-capital) as needed.

10% - Continuous Improvement

  • Facilitate process/procedure improvement sessions related to: incident management, product quality opportunities, and overall quality system improvements
  • Partner with sites on capital projects related to food safety and quality improvements.

Qualifications:


  • BA/BS in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field and / or Master’s degree a plus.
  • Must have applicable work experience in the food industry implementing quality and food safety programs. 10 years preferred. Consideration given to candidates with a minimum of 5 years experiences.
  • HACCP, SQF and PCQI certification preferred.
  • Experience in hygienic and sanitary design is preferred.
  • Experience in any of following products, manufacturing
  • Knowledge of federal and state food industry regulations including Food Safety Modernization Act
  • Hires outside of the US must be fluent in English. Cultural business knowledge / acumen required. Bi-lingual in Spanish, preferred. Knowledge of other languages a plus.
  • Travel: up to 40% travel expected with North American focus. Higher travel on focused projects.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Superior communication skills in verbal and written form. Advanced presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees (from Production to VP level)
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to make business decisions considering strategic company objectives
  • Ability to represent Hershey and establish relationships with outside agencies (regulatory, co-mfg, suppliers, engineering firms, trade groups, etc). Strong auditing / assessment skills
  • Advanced problem solving/trouble shooting skills
  • In depth understanding of a production / manufacturing environment
  • Advanced proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, SAP, Net Weight, Trackwise and Power BI
  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory and quality system requirements – Hershey’s Product Excellence Program, Food Safety (FSMA, HACCP), Good Manufacturing Process (GMP).
  • Advanced knowledge of sanitation, sanitary design of equipment and facilities, food microbiology
