Cabot has a unique and exciting opportunity for an R&D Manager to join the fast moving and growing Inkjet team.

The position will manage a small team, while balancing project, customer, and technical responsibilities.

The manager will join the existing managerial team and be a part of the Inkjet senior management team in the R&D organization, providing input on the direction of future development opportunities both in products and markets. The manager will contribute towards defining the roadmap for future development and assist in building the culture of a winning and learning organization.

• Responsible for management activities for team including assigning work, performance management, compensation planning, employee development and motivation, coaching and team communications
• Defines individual and project(s) goals and deliverables in alignment with business objectives to understand and deliver solutions to problems of high complexity and broad scope in applications
• Deploys and adjusts as necessary resources for effective execution of projects, provides support and removes impediments to project success
• Leads team with project management principles to ensure updated documentation using internal tools (ex: StageGate, project management charters, resource tracking) to reflect current state of projects
• Leads Team in preparation of appropriate reports and presentations documenting work, results, conclusions. Presents work and proactively shares knowledge with senior management, broad technical groups, and/or business partners with the aim to advance the technical strength of the organization
• Initiates and maintains contacts with key technical resources of educational institutions, technical organizations and other companies in order to stay current with emerging technology and key talent
• Adheres to all intellectual property standards throughout area of responsibility. Stays current with relevant patent literature. Identifies opportunities to capture new IP and supports the preparation of patent applications. Integrates technical and IP strategy
• Ensures safe laboratory operations, participates in scheduled safety meetings, and completes safety training requirements. Creates awareness and develops technical documentation and tools to address safety topics. Sought after for their expertise in safety to participate in safety-focused activities.
• Strictly follows and complies with all SH&E procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strives for Excellence in the fields of sustainability and Safety, Health, and preservation of the Environment.
• Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science or Engineering or equivalent with 6+ years of experience in product/applications development related to customer products, OR
• Master’s Degree in a related technical discipline and generally 10+ years of related exp, OR
• Post-secondary degree (Bachelor’s/University) in related technical discipline and generally 12+ years of related experience
• Experience managing customer interactions/relationships in a Technology environment (for purposes of product/application development) highly desirable
• Experience leading/managing people preferred - generally with 2+ years in a management capacity
• Communication & Presentation Skills. Ability to effectively engage in verbal and written communications that are timely, concise, clear, and relevant while delivering with empathy
• Creative in messaging to help with the external communication (ex: website design) of performance results and the value that our products bring
