Recreation Assistant

Garden Spot Village, part of Garden Spot Communities, is currently seeking Recreation Assistant's for Part Time (20 hrs per week)

Garden Spot Village, located in New Holland, PA, is a Retirement Community offering innovative options for residential living, and also wellness and healthcare services.

The Recreation Assistant will work in our Therapeutic Recreation department where you will assist the Therapeutic Recreation Director in developing and implementing groups or 1:1 activities that specifically meet the desired interests of all the residents, and orienting and training volunteers who will work closely with the recreation team members in providing these resident services.

What will I do in this role with Garden Spot?

As a Recreation Assistant, supporting the Garden Spot Communities' mission will include the following responsibilities:

• Observes infection control procedures related to the Therapeutic Recreation Program.
• Assists, as needed, with conducting MDS interviews as well as Therapeutic Recreation Leisure and Preferences Assessment.
• Participates in resident care plan meetings, as needed.
• Participates in nursing restorative and rehabilitative programs, as requested.
• Plans and implements programs for individual, group and 1:1 activities based on residents' choice and needs.
• Assists with trips and outings.
• Enters documentation (groups and one-on-ones) in PointClickCare.
• Supervises and directs volunteers involved in assisting with recreation programs.
• Assist residents during mealtimes with eating, as requested (must take the "Helping Hands" class prior to assisting)
• Accepts assigned duties in a cooperative manner.

What do I need for this role with Garden Spot?

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Recreational experience in long-term care preferred, although not required
• Able to work independently or with a team.
• Possess some computer skills.
• Enjoy working with older adults who have varying degrees of physical and/or memory impairment.
• Be dependable as well as trustworthy.
• Possess patience and have a "heart" for helping aged adults maintain a "quality of life" (whatever that may be to them as individuals vary).
• Possess flexibility in work assignments and schedules.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills (both oral and written).
• Be adaptable change directions quickly when the need arises.
• Possess some creativity.
