THE POSITION:

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Coordinator, is responsible for creating a fun and safe recreational environment for children ages 5-13 attending our Kids Hang Out After School Program.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for day-to-day program activities (Setting up games, activities, arts & crafts projects, homework, and snack).
  • Makes the program a positive experience for everyone involved.
  • Comes to work well rested and prepared.
  • Models and teaches the participants the importance of honesty, trust, responsibility, consistency, and respect for equipment and each other.
  • Has a positive and open means of communication with youth, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Attends trainings, meetings, and evaluations with coordinators and supervisors.
  • Projects an attitude of concern and caring.
  • Work flexible hours.
  • Any other tasks, within reason, the supervisor may ask you to complete.

Physical Demand: Sitting; standing; running, walking over uneven ground; lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 50 lbs.

Environmental Demands: Outside: Works outside in a variety of weather conditions ranging from cold rainy weather to +100° F. Inside: Works indoors in large buildings and gymnasiums.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to work with children (at least one year of experience is preferable)
  • Ability to lead groups in recreational activities.
  • Ability to make constructive and safe decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide conflict management for participants and staff.
  • Knowledge in youth development and recreation planning
