Healogics is hiring a Refund Specialist to work in our Corporate Office in Jacksonville, Florida.

Job Summary:


The Refund Specialist is responsible for a variety of duties as assigned by management, primarily processing refunds for all overpayments including all payers and patients. The individual in this role is responsible for problem solving accounts with credit balances and or overpayments for various payers including HMO’s, Medicaid, Medicare, Commercial payers and Self Pay. Special projects may also be assigned as needed.

All Healogics employees must perform their job responsibilities according to all Healogics policies, Hospital policies, as well as to accrediting organizations, federal and state regulation, and to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, as applicable.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Credit Balance Reports and take necessary steps to guarantee timely processing of overpaid claims and or accounts
  • Verify accuracy of account credit balances and or overpayments and revise errors
  • Operate software system for billing, posting, and claims research
  • Obtain and/or enter required documents and information
  • Maintain detailed electronic and paper records and documentation as required
  • Resolve discrepancies in Patient accounts
  • Interact with staff, Payers and other agencies to answer questions, obtain information, and resolve issues
  • Recognize problem accounts and notify appropriate staff or Manager to assist in resolution
  • Identify trends and advise Business Manager of the issues related
  • Perform other accounting and related tasks as assigned by the AR Manager
  • Design forms, tools, and procedures to improve efficiencies
  • Performs other duties as required

Required Education, Experience and Credentials:

  • High school diploma required; Associates Degree preferred with a minimum of two (2) years of Billing Office experience; or
  • Equivalent education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to other employees of the organization
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player to work collaboratively on projects
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Outlook, Excel, Word and Access software, internet and web-based database programs
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Technical /Functional Knowledge
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Adaptable to change
  • Dependable, demonstrates a strong work ethic, reliable attendance/punctuality
