Position Title: Research Assistant

Arizona Plant Breeders Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of the research team located in Casa Grande, AZ.

Essentials duties and responsibilities:

About Arizona Plant Breeders.

The Research Assistant is responsible for supporting and assisting in all the day to day operations of Arizona Plant Breeders. This includes the following activities:

• Preparing and packaging the seed
• Planting, crossing, note taking, nursery maintenance and harvesting all APB nurseries (durum, HRSW, Triticale and Barley)
• Processing of all harvested material (cleaning, thrashing, and testing the seed quality in the lab)
• Ability to travel out of state and stay overnight
• Willingness to work on weekends during the busy months

• Other related duties as assigned
• Candidates must be a motivated, self-starting individual

Education & work experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in one of the life sciences
• Basic understanding of plant breeding and research methodologies
• Experience with data management and record keeping is important
• Good interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communication skills in English
• Familiarity with Microsoft package e.g. word and excel
• Ability to work independently and in teams
