Summary of Position
Under general supervision of Prof. Harlan Spence and in collaboration with associated project personnel, develop, perform, and supervise basic research in areas of expertise, including lunar and cosmic ray physics, interpret results of supportive modeling and data analysis, determine scientific significance of results, disseminate scientific knowledge through presentations and publications, support project-related education and public outreach activities, and develop new proposals for related scientific research.

Other minimum qualifications
  • PhD in Nuclear Engineering or similar technical field.
  • Experience in information technology specialty areas as required by employing unit, including high performance computing.
  • Overall computer literacy and computer skills as required by employing department/unit, including for example, FORTRAN, Python, Matlab, and Javascript.
  • Thorough knowledge of data analysis techniques required for CRaTER projects, including use and development of radiation transport codes and their use for analysis of radiation shielding, energy deposition, and dosimetry.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; an outstanding demonstrated publication record with a focus on radiation transport and lunar science

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise with the following radiation transport codes: MCNP, HETC-HEDS, HZETRN, PHITS, GEANT
  • Expertise with the following computer literacies and skills: AutoCAD, Linux, and UNIX
