Resident Director & Coordinator of Student Conduct

This 10-month, fully benefited position serves part-time as a Resident Director and part-time as a Coordinator of Student Conduct. As a Resident Director, this position is responsible for the management of one or more residence halls. As the Coordinator of Student Conduct this position is responsible for addressing student conduct concerns, issuing restorative sanctions, and proactively assisting with educational outreach. A 12-month apartment is provided in one of the residence halls. Pets are allowed with a signed pet agreement and deposit. Supervision responsibilities will include supervising 6-12 student employees (Resident Assistants). This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Summary: The Resident Director manages up to two residence halls housing approximately 220-275 students. Position requires employee to live on-campus. Included with the position is a semi-furnished apartment (year-long), board plan (August-May), and a parking space.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following:

  • Supervise 6-12 Resident Assistants
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor concerning day-to-day functions of building
  • Attend and conduct regular staff meetings
  • Assist with selection, training and evaluating all staff
  • Coordinate all programming efforts in the residence halls
  • Serve in an on-call rotation as the primary emergency contact for the campus
  • Assist with room assignments processes
  • Oversee efforts to keep the buildings maintenance current and in good working order
  • Advise hall council activities
  • Serve as a conduct Hearing Officer in consultation with the Chief Conduct Officer


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise 1-2 staffs of 6-12 Resident Assistants.


Coordinator of Student Conduct

Summary: This position assists in the oversight of student conduct and residence hall policies. This individual will assist with the advising of the Student Conduct Board, serve as a hearing officer for low to mid-level allegations of violations, coordinate trainings and workshops, track and assess conduct outcomes, and provide case management assistance to the residence directors. This individual will screen incident reports and initiate communications with the involved students to improve turnaround time for incidents.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following

  • Review all incoming incident reports for accuracy and completeness of report and assigning charges
  • Coordinate with hearing officers and/or student conduct board to schedule hearing
  • Co-advise the Student Conduct Board with the Chief Student Conduct Officer,
  • Assist with training and development
  • Hear and adjudicate assigned cases utilizing a Restorative Practices framework
  • Maintain incident tracking and reporting system to ensure all records are up-to-date and accurate
  • Track sanctions and fines to ensure completion
  • Assist in the development and implementation of learning outcomes and assessment
  • Assist with implementing the Alcohol and Other Drug prevention and misuse initiatives
  • Attend and engage with Student Services meetings


This position is an essential employee for inclement weather events and will be required to report for duty in adverse weather conditions when the College is closed. The position also is required to report on time in situations when the College is on a delayed start and is required to continue working when the College is released early.

  • Written evaluations completed by Director of Campus Life and Assistant Dean of Students.
  • Degree to which responsibilities are accomplished.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and integrity with communications to entities internal and external to the College
  • Attitude and morale of students and staff with whom the Residence Director works.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication and organizational skills required, as well as skills in leadership development, supervision, crisis intervention and group dynamics; knowledge of student development theory and experience with staff development and training preferred.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree required with a specialization in Higher Education, College Student Personnel or closely related field.
  • Residence Life/Housing experience required.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with student conduct preferred.

  • On-campus apartment including utilities, cable, internet, voice mail, and local phone service.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises Resident Assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


COMPUTER SKILLS

Must have basic computer skills and ability to learn new software programs.


OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

CERTIFICATES, LICESNSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Tennessee Drivers license required. Must pass MVR check.
