Under direct supervision the Program Coordinator is responsible for leveraging community resources as well as other TANF site resources to provide family focused employment, education, job training, wellness and prevention services to local TANF clients and their families. Programs may include, but are not limited to: life skills; employability, job search and job readiness skills; cultural activities, substance abuse prevention, out-of-wedlock pregnancy prevention, and maintenance and formation of healthy two parent families. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in education, business, psychology, social services or related field and one year experience in project and activity coordination, counseling, education or coordinating employment and job search activities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess a valid California or Nevada driver’s license at time of employment. Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

  • Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists in community collaboration efforts in providing these program services to WTTP customers.

  • Plans, develops, implements and participates in media programs or campaigns designed to keep potential customers and the public informed of program services in conjunction with the Site Manager and Program Coordinators from each county office.

  • Communicates to clients regarding available resources.

  • Collaborates with community partners to provide culturally relevant client activities.

  • Incorporates the four TANF principles in addressing issues related to job readiness, employment counseling, life skills development, family formation and early pregnancy prevention in activities.

  • Arranges activities including workshops, classes, presentations and other collaborative community efforts.

  • Works closely with the Case Manager to focus program services toward identified customer needs based on Family self-sufficiency plans, educational plans, vocational plans and home visits.

  • Assists with identifying referral services available to WTT customers within the local community.

  • Maintains records and is responsible for entering client data into case files and electronic database.

  • Maintains good working relationships with partnership agency representatives.

  • Interacts directly with the public and targeted populations as a spokesperson for the Washoe Native TANF Program.

  • Attends case staffing meetings with case manager and site manager.

  • Assists with client eligibility as needed.

  • Assists in collaborative efforts with and apart from the Community Outreach Liaison and relevant staff members to recruit clientele, develop targeted strategies and disseminate program information.

  • Plans, prepares, implements, evaluates and enters project data into case files and electronic database.

  • Coordinates events and activities/projects with other staff members.

  • Conducts initial drug screening for eligibility determination and makes follow-up referrals for substance abuse treatment as indicated.

  • Develops, manages, implements and evaluates budgets for projects.

  • Transports clients to agencies as needed.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Hiring preference is provided to members of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California followed by members of other federally recognized tribes. Must pass and comply with the PL101.630-Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act. Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California requires any designated candidate to complete a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, must possess a valid NV or CA. driver license within thirty (30) days of employment, (when applicable) and PL 101-630 Criminal / Character Investigation background check.
