SAFETY AND HEALTH SPECIALIST-Independent Stave Company
Location: Western or Eastern Kentucky Regions
Compensation: $75,000-$85,000. Based on experience
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
The primary function of the Health and Safety Specialist will be to create a strategic partnership with department leaders to assist in identifying workplace safety and health risks and implementing resources and control measures that align with our facility and corporate initiatives. In addition, the Safety and Health Specialist is responsible for knowing, interpreting, and appropriately applying all applicable federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and regulations.
The SH Specialist role will be demanding, and the successful candidate will be required to travel to multiple facilities and lead or assist with many of the SH activities while maintaining the day-to-day requirements of the role. Therefore, the ability to plan and organize workloads and effectively multitask is needed.
In this role, you will:
- Lead site audits and risk assessment activities and implement corrective action promptly to ensure company and regulatory compliance.
- In partnership with operational leadership, set up and maintain safety training programs in all relevant safety competency areas. Assure training is documented and reviewed constantly to assure compliance and timeliness and maintain appropriate written records/ documentation of such training being conducted and reinforced.
- Reviews current and proposed safety and health regulations, standards, and guidance for impact at facilities.
- Directs and coordinates activities, reports, documents, and programs for maintaining environmental compliance.
- Provide training for the facility incident response team.
- Ensure appropriate recordkeeping and regulatory reporting are in place.
- Ensure comprehensive employee and contractor orientation for safety is conducted.
- Train, mentor, and supervise SH staff and functional teams. Have the ability to work closely with Security, Human Resources, and Occupational Health as needed.
- Participate in and assist with developing continuous improvement activities and cost savings initiatives.
- Guide and promote safe work performance by developing and enforcing safety policies, implementing safety campaigns, and training supervisors and employees on EH&S expectations.
- Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH SPECIALIST:
- B.S. in Safety, Environmental Science, or related field or appropriate industrial experience
- 2-4 years prior relevant experience.
- Effective oral presentation, report writing, and other written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively, professionally, and respectfully in a team-based environment as a team leader and team member and to promote respectful interaction with others with whom the position interacts
- Ability to lead task teams and interact effectively with diverse people from various functions, levels, and backgrounds
- 50-60% Travel ability
- Microsoft Office Suite
