Position Brief:

Responsible for managing the Health and Safety functions for the LS Tractor USA facilities. Develops, implements and maintains site policies adhering to local, state and federal health and safety regulations. Responsible for overseeing the preparation, maintenance, and updating of safety policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Works with facility management and supervisors to execute effective safety programs that drive positive behaviors and results. Requires travel to company facilities.

Overall Accountabilities:

  • Safety. Acts as a key member of the Facility Leadership Team. Participates in plant leadership meetings and provides leadership in the area of Plant Safety. Ensures effective execution of plant safety programs and policies. Actively assesses plant compliance and execution regarding safety programs, including:
  • Administers the audiometric testing and hearing conservation programs inclusive of noise surveys. Monitors, analyzes and records performance of the plant exhaust and make-up air ventilation systems.
  • Manages the plant personal protective equipment, work clothing and safety equipment programs according to company standards and operating budget.
  • Develops and implements effective plant programs for the identification, prevention and control of occupational injuries. Develops, coordinates and administers plant health and safety education and training programs. Serves on the plant safety committee.
  • Maintains current awareness of applicable federal, state and local health, industrial hygiene and safety regulations. Maintains legal, governmental and company environmental permitting/reporting, health, medical and safety-related records according to standards, including confidentiality. Maintains an accurate OSHA 200/300 log. Accompanies visiting inspectors and reports findings.
  • Administers the plant hazard communication program, including maintaining up-to-date SDS’s, effective identification of all chemicals, chemical inventory and related training and education programs including: Hearing Conservation, Hazard Communication, PPE, Lockout/Tagout, Emergency Response, etc.
  • Reviews all assembly and support operations to assure ongoing safety. Assists the line organization in developing job safety analyses (JSA’s) and safe operating procedures for all tasks and in investigating incidents. Develops and implements audit programs to review and assure compliance with applicable health and safety standards.
  • Develops and maintains site Safety Audit and Observations Programs with emphasis on promoting heightened levels of Safety awareness.
  • Assists plant management in investigating workplace incidents, determine root cause, and develop corrective actions. Maintain the site incident logs.
  • Coordinates all workers’ compensation activities for the plant.
  • Employee Relations. Provides an open access and resource for employees to bring forward ideas, issues, or concerns. Actively listens to employee concerns and provides council and support toward a satisfactory resolution. Protects employee confidentiality, unless there is risk of harm to others or the business. Takes appropriate steps to resolves issues.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration. Acts as a member of the Facility Leadership Team. Actively engages in plant leadership meetings, and provides timely feedback to Facility Leadership Team regarding regulatory and safety topics. May provide and/or receive input from across functional boundaries. Understands organizational mesh points and potential synergies. Integrates team efforts across business segments and channels. Understands available resources, both in the organization and outside of the organization and utilizes those resources when appropriate.

Communicates effectively and professionally to both internal and external parties using appropriate methods and technology.   • Demonstrated Business Acumen. Understands cause and effect relationships with regard to variables that impact the business viability of the organization.

Incumbent Profile:

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in Safety/Environmental Sciences or related field.
  • 3 years of progressive work experience in Safety and Regulatory Administration, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Good analytical ability, including the ability to analyze statistical data and make sound recommendations.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Must be organized and detail oriented and be able to manage multiple tasks with varying priorities.
  • Must be innovative and performance and quality driven.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and capabilities as a part of the plant management team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or relevant software
