Position Summary
Provides security for the school district staff, students, buildings and property through patrol of school building(s) and building perimeters, including parking lots, to prevent unauthorized visitors or property damage and to provide for general building security; does related work as required.

  • Monday-Friday
  • Times varies but follow the times of the school in which you are assigned.
  • Overtime is available for after school activities

Job Duties
Under general supervision, security guards are responsible for maintaining over-all security for all occupants and property of the assigned school district buildings, parking lots and sites in accordance with established security procedures. This classification is unarmed and does not have the power to arrest individuals for security breaches. This position is distinguished from the Safety and Security Officer in that this position is not responsible for conducting inspections of building and grounds for hazardous conditions and/or safety violations. The security guard must comply with the duties outlined by their superior.
Qualifications and Required Documents

  • Security/Law Enforcement/Corrections Experience (Preferred)
  • Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) less than 5 years old
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) less than 5 years old
  • FBI Criminal History Record (Act 114) less than 5 years old

If document is past 1 year range, the original clearance that was received at the time of initial request must be provided. Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than two years old

  • Proof of a high school diploma
  • Additional required STS documents will be provided during on boarding process

Please include any additional certificates for specialized training (i.e. Crisis Prevention Intervention).Essential FunctionsAny one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include duties which may be found in all positions of this class: * Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school board policies.

  • Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
  • Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Supervises and directs pupil movement.
  • Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
  • Operates metal detectors and conducts searches when directed to do so.
  • Investigates student violations of school board policies and prepare reports of the results.
  • Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses and law violations.
  • Assists with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations.
  • Supervises classroom behavior in lieu of faculty.
  • Maintains security records, logs and reports.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Night and weekend work is available for extra hours during school dances, sporting events and other events as needed.
