Job Summary

Responsible for the complete upkeep and smooth functioning of the laundry department. Assure cleanliness of guest linen is performed as per standard linen must be done as per procedure shown, all linen must be inspected making sure no spots or holes are in items. All linen must be folded properly as per standard check for wrinkles or any discrepancies before sending to room attendants. All equipment must be handled properly if something breaks it needs to be reported as soon as possible. All chemicals must be used properly all labels must be in place, linen has to be counted to keep an accurate inventory on a weekly basis. Laundry area must be kept clean at all times; Manager must be ready to have a special project to assign the laundry supervisor on a daily basis. Manager must be team oriented if someone needs help they will assign if needed. Overton’s Hotel high standard of cleanliness must be followed at all times since the priority #1 is our guest.

The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below or through the exercise of sound, reasonable judgment and initiative in the performance of job responsibilities.

Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives.

Summary of essential job functions:

1. Developing and putting into operation the current system and technical advancement in the field of Laundry operations

2. Formulating washing formula for stained loads.

3. Ensuring the washing of linen and uniform as per standard.

4. Maintenance and upkeep of all laundry equipment.

5. Coordinating with the Engineering Department about their routine maintenance of the equipment.

6. Assisting in Preparing Annual Laundry Budget.

7. Develop new methods for increasing laundry efficiency.

8. Coordinate with the maintenance team for outstanding repairs of machinery.

9. Overall controlling and supervision of the Department.

10. Training and coordination with supporting Departments.

11. Record and monitor laundry cost.

12. Make reports and recommendations when required.

13. Oversee the laundry equipment preventive maintenance program.

14. Approve distribution of linen to guestrooms and food and beverage department areas.

15. Direct all Laundry staff.

16. Approve the Laundry staff duty roster.

17. Organize training for the staff.

18. Train new laundry staffs.

19. Experience in team management.

20. Should be familiar with computers and hotel applications.

21. Provide other duties and services as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper.

22. Conduct daily departmental meetings with supervisors and Staff.

23. Wash and dry linen following procedure shown as proper use of chemicals and folding methods.

24. Keep linen organized and in proper shelves.

25. Keep correct inventories of linen, bed spreads, mattress pads, etc.

26. Keep the laundry area free of trash debris, check dryers lint compartment in timely manner and that sign off sheet is being filled, set all equipment in the proper settings in washer and dryer as per instructions or standard.

27. Polish and clean machines.

28. Obtain special projects and supplies from supervisor set up as needed.

29. Inspect Laundry area constantly to keep areas clean and free of debris. Report any broken items or safety issues immediately. Must take pride in maintaining a high standard.

30. Must be able to coach and counsel employees, with Assistance of Direct Supervisor if needed.

31. Must coordinate with Assistant Executive Housekeeper to schedule accordingly to meet budget requirements and productivity levels

32. Must make a weekly assessment of all laundry products needed in order to communicate with Assistant/Executive Housekeeper for all orders

33. Must be able to follow all safety requirements at all times in laundry and laundry related work areas.

34. Will receive and process new uniforms for new and current employees

35. Altering uniforms as is necessary to fit new and current employees as is required

36. Organize uniforms by department and size

37. Work with managers and supervisors to ascertain uniform needs

38. Maintain accurate inventory of uniforms and to whom they are issued

Educational/Experience Requirements
1. Any combination of education or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

2. Previous Hotel Management/Supervisory experience required preferably with Laundry experience

3. Linen and Terry Care training/knowledge

  • 3+ years sewing/alteration work experience required
  • Must possess knowledge of sewing equipment and techniques
  • Formal tailoring education preferred
  • Computer literate in Office Word, Excel, Outlook

Abilities Required
1. Ability to lift, bend, stoop, walk, push or pull heavy equipment, and stand for extended periods of time.

2. Ability to lift equipment or furniture weighing up to 50. lbs.

  • Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system

  • Must be able to read and write English

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $17.00 per hour
