Senior Producer, Freakonomics Radio Job at Sirius XM

Sirius XM New York, NY 10018

Responsibilities:

Who We Are:

SiriusXM and its brands (Pandora, Stitcher, SXM Media, AdsWizz, Simplecast, and SiriusXM Connected Vehicle Services) are leading a new era of audio entertainment and services by delivering the most compelling subscription and ad-supported audio entertainment experience for listeners - in the car, at home, and anywhere on the go with connected devices. Our vision is to shape the future of audio, where everyone can be effortlessly connected to the voices, stories and music they love wherever they are.

This is the place where a diverse group of emerging talent and legends alike come to share authentic and purposeful songs, stories, sounds and insights through some of the best programming and technology in the world. Our critically-acclaimed, industry-leading audio entertainment encompasses music, sports, comedy, news, talk, live events, and podcasting. No matter their individual role, each of our employees plays a vital part in bringing SiriusXM’s vision to life every day.

Stitcher

Stitcher, a subsidiary of SiriusXM, is the best place to listen to, produce and monetize podcasts. The Stitcher app is one of the world's most popular podcast listening platforms, with a growing network of original content and a premium subscription service. Stitcher is home to Stitcher Originals, top-ranked comedy podcast network Earwolf, and award-winning documentary network Witness Docs, where it produces original content for talent such as Seth Rogen, LeVar Burton, Bill Nye, Office Ladies, and many more. We also provide ad sales and distribution services to 300+ shows such as WTF with Marc Maron, Crime Junkie, Oprah's SuperSoul Conversations and many more.

How you’ll make an impact:

The Freakonomics Radio Network makes Freakonomics Radio, one of the world's most popular podcasts, and a growing slate of other shows. Our work reaches millions of listeners in podcast apps and on public radio. We're looking for a talented, experienced journalist and researcher to help us grow the network and work on new projects as well as our existing shows.

Who you are:

You might currently be a reporter or audio producer; you might be working as an analyst or a researcher; you might have spent time in graduate school. But you have a strong background in the social sciences or data analysis and a demonstrated interest in evidence-based ideas and rigorous research. You're comfortable with technical and academic material and curious about the world around you.

You're good at managing processes, solving problems, keeping multiple balls in the air, and sweating the small stuff. You can write quickly, clearly, and even delightfully. You're committed to telling great stories and getting the facts right.

If you've worked in podcasts or public radio, that's great, but we're open to people without an audio background too. An appreciation for great audio storytelling is a plus, though.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to the creative and editorial development of new shows and formats

  • Manage launches and build production processes

  • Pitch and investigate episode ideas

  • Identify and interview guests

  • Draft and edit scripts

  • Ensure consistent high quality at every stage of production

  • Supervise junior staff

What you’ll need:

  • At least 3 years of experience in journalism or another research-oriented field, in a deadline-driven environment

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in the behavioral or social sciences

  • Excellent writing samples

  • Scrupulous attention to detail

  • Familiarity with Freakonomics Radio

  • Our team is based in New York, but we'll consider a remote arrangement for the right candidate.

  • Our production schedule sometimes involves weekend and evening work, with commensurate time off provided.

  • You might be asked to travel occasionally.

  • Must have a legal right to work in the U.S

At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the base salary for this position to be in the range of $64,200.00 to $100,000.00 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.

Our goal at SiriusXM is to provide and maintain a work environment that fosters mutual respect, professionalism and cooperation. SiriusXM is an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of actual or perceived race, creed, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, alienage or citizenship status, age, disability or handicap, sex, gender identity, marital status, familial status, veteran status, sexual orientation or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws.

The requirements and duties described above may be modified or waived by the Company in its sole discretion without notice.
