Position: Solar Energy Engineer

ArcVera Renewables is seeking an experienced solar engineer to help lead the ArcVera Renewables’ solar resource and technical consulting practice. This individual will play a role in leading ArcVera Renewables’ growing solar energy and resource practice, while working on multiple projects with all levels of technical staff. The analysis of solar energy projects involves working across a range of responsibilities, including meteorological data evaluation, application of modeling techniques and loss assumptions and design scenario modeling for optimization, financeable solar energy resource assessment (SERA) and independent engineering (IE) report writing, evaluation, and recommendation of solar module and inverter technologies, bifacial module analysis and recommendations, plant design reviews, and reviews of commercial agreements such as power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and other service contracts and arrangements. The position requires a level of engagement internally and with clients, rigor, and high attention to detail in technical aspects, high-quality written communication, client handling, top-notch problem solving, project management, decision-making under uncertain circumstances, and interpersonal relationships. It is expected that the individual will uphold and defend ArcVera Renewables’ opinions and assumptions in high quality timely work product and instill self- efficacy.

The role requires competency with solar meteorological data, experience with solar energy simulation modeling, independent engineering, basic solar technology and system design, and analysis of operational project’s (e.g., 10-minute SCADA) data and performance. It also requires maintaining current knowledge of advancements in solar power technology and current market conditions for commercial agreements.

The position includes interfacing with existing and potential clients and at industry conferences and at their office locations, preparing proposals and collaborating with principals and other colleagues in ArcVera Renewables growing solar energy practice. The person in this role is expected to thrive among solar energy and renewable energy colleagues, enjoy engaging with market participants, to be comfortable at and seek to present at conferences, and to develop or help develop new analysis methods while staying abreast of developments elsewhere in the industry. The individual is expected to conduct themselves with professionalism amongst the independent engineering industry and uphold ArcVera Renewable’s standards and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Timely and efficient completion, or oversight of such completion by the solar team, of high- quality renewable energy analysis work including written communication
  • Mentor staff/team members as required to effectively grow team.
  • Carry out pre-construction, IE, and operational energy analyses, including:
  • Review, validation, and analysis of meteorological data for solar resource assessments;
  • Design and optimization of solar plants to meet project requirements;
  • Estimation of plant losses and calculation of assessment uncertainties;
  • Management and analysis of project data;
  • Evaluation of project constraints, risks, and other non-quantitative aspects of plant development;
  • IE collaboration and reporting; and
  • Contribute to and review to final form, energy reports and other analyses for clients.
  • Perform due diligence analyses of proposed or operating solar power facilities to assess historical production, equipment and design reviews and other technical or commercial arrangements.
  • Assist in developing company quality standards related to solar energy.
  • Assist in developing analysis tools, standards and procedures related to solar energy.
  • Understand and ensure company quality standards are met.
  • Support business development activities, including meeting with customers to explain technical details clearly and concisely if needed.
  • Manage solar energy projects to satisfy client objectives.
  • Ability to speak up early and with clarity if an issue arises that, if left unaddressed, could create further problems.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a physical science, engineering, data science, or statistics from an accredited University.
  • 5-8 yrs experience in the solar energy sector and ability to interpret codes and standards.
  • 4+ yrs experience with solar resource assessment and solar energy modeling with PVsyst and other solar energy analysis tools, significant knowledge of independent engineering practice.
  • Knowledge of technical specifications that affect performance for solar modules, inverters, trackers and other equipment, and the ability read and read and evaluate the legitimacy of technical specifications and claims
  • A creative and entrepreneurial spirit with a consistent drive to succeed and excel
  • Working knowledge of a programming language(s) for use in statistics and data visualization, preferably in R, Python or MATLAB.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to travel as needed to solar energy sites and conferences, or company events
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated skills managing both projects and personnel.
  • Excellent report organization, report and proposal preparation, writing and presentation skills and being able to clear and concisely communicate opinions and conclusions.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a physical science, engineering, data science or statistics from an accredited University.
  • 6+ yr experience in the solar energy sector, including consulting experience and knowledge of independent engineering
  • Working knowledge of current PV technology and energy modeling, with a focus on pre-construction, plant design, and operational performance assessment.
  • Proven track record with SCADA analysis. Analysis of periodic events, identification and allocation of performance issues, and time series data.
  • Database management skills preferably in PostgreSQL.
  • Knowledge of data science concepts such as machine learning.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
