General Summary

Part-time, as needed

Under general supervision, administers and directs speech and language therapy to rehabilitate victims of injury and/or illness and to prevent complications of current status. Evaluates success of treatment, provides documentation, sets up programs appropriate for interdisciplinary team members to carry out, adapting program to meet patients needs and progress. Instructs and supervises patients, family and staff members on therapeutic procedures which are carried out on patient units and will be necessary for a safe discharge home.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Accurately screens, evaluates and treats patients to ensure that patients admitted for treatment receive needed therapy services and service delivery is documented appropriately.
• Supervises and trains staff members in speech and language related areas to facilitate carry over in patient care and continuity.
• Provides documentation that meets the following criteria:
• Is accurate, concise and complete
• Minimizes duplication
• Reflects a clear picture of the patient’s problems, the therapist’s intervention and outcomes
• Meets governmental, regulatory and payor requirements
• Ensures that service complies with facility policies and procedures.
• Communicates effectively with physicians and team members regarding patient problems, progress and programs.
• Attends and participates in continuing educational programs through appropriate professional organizations.
• Completes mandatory facility in-services.
• Participates in development of in-service programs related to specialty for appropriate team members.
• Coordinates services with other therapy disciplines.
• Promotes, educates, understands, and practices the National Patient safety Goals.
• Promotes and maintains employee safety

Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Speech and Language Pathologist in this state.
