Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is a part-time, non-unit position with no benefits.

The Program Developer and Facilitator is the lead instructor for the STEM Starter Academy Summer Program held virtually on WEBEX from August 14th through August 25th, 2023. They are responsible for revising the instructional content if needed, serving as the lead teacher, identifying supplies needed to run the program and monitoring students’ progress throughout the program. They may also attend follow-up meetings throughout the academic year and advises the STEM Starter Academy Summer Program Administrative Director as needed. The daily content of the program includes 2 1/2 hours of STEM-focused math review as well as one hour of programming on college success skills/career readiness or an interactive, team-building STEM activity. The Program Developer and Facilitator is selected on the basis of leadership experience, communication and interpersonal skills, academic success, organizational skills and willingness to foster interest in STEM fields. This candidate is expected to do some amount of preparatory work before the start date of the program as well as to be present during the two week program to serve as the lead instructor. The Program Developer and Facilitator will also work with, coordinate and mentor the student assistants.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support the goals of the STEM Division and STEM Starter Academy;
  • Develop and refine 10 days of curriculum integrating various STEM activities to support each lesson;
  • Deliver the developed curriculum over the 10 days of the program;
  • Foster an interest in STEM fields among the students;
  • Train and mentor the student assistants;
  • Coordinate materials needed and facilitate purchase and delivery process;
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for students;
  • Work collaboratively with second program facilitator and SSASP staff;
  • Assist with timely data collection and survey instruments, as per guidance from SSA staff;
  • Promote and demonstrate respect for all students, inclusive of all races, ages, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and abilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree, preferably in math or another STEM field;
  • Teaching experience;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent communications skills.

  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Familiarity with developmental math curriculum at MassBay Community College.
