Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for Supervising Community Health Workers to support the expansion of Trauma Prevention Initiative services within four communities of South Los Angeles and to new communities including East Los Angeles/Commerce, Puente Valley, Pomona, Hawaiian Gardens, and Antelope Valley. The goal of the Trauma Prevention Initiative is to reduce trauma visits and deaths due to assault, reduce serious and violent crimes throughout LA County, with an initial focus on reducing the high rates of violence in South Los Angeles.

The Supervising Community Health Worker (CHW) will report to TPI Co- lead and be responsible for outreach efforts in south Los Angeles communities, and managing a team of 3 of CHWs to support community engagement, provide peer outreach and support to Community Action for Peace networks, and outreach at community events to promote peacebuilding activities.

The positions will start immediately upon acceptance and clearance after 7/1/2022 and is initially funded through 6/30/2023 .

Pay Rate-

$25.96/hr working 40 hours a week

Shifts: Hybrid position Office located in Alhambra, CA (Telework/Fieldwork in South Central Los Angeles)

40 hours a week

Minimum Requirements :

  • Three years of experience at the level of Senior Community Health Worker or other Peer Outreach Provider or similar experience at a public or private community-based organization, government agency, clinic, hospital, or health system; OR five years of experience at the level of a Community Health Worker or other Peer Outreach Provider;
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Professional understanding of general health disparities, and the unique impact of violence on communities of color, low-income communities, and other highly impacted communities throughout LA County.
  • Knowledge of community assets and resources within the South LA TPI communities. Experience living and/or working in South LA preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution and team management, interpersonal communication, planning, and organizational skills;
  • Ability (including reliable transportation) to conduct field supervision in the community a minimum of two days per week.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally manage a team of CHWs and clerical staff during a time of crisis.
  • Experience counseling team members on resources available to manage emotional and mental stress.
  • Ability to address any elevated concerns or answer complex questions CHWs may have regarding working with communities impacted by violence and trauma.
  • Possess proficiency with computers and software programs.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Excellent critical thinking and judgment skills.
  • Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel throughout the County.
  • If primarily working with limited English proficient (LEP) populations, have the capacity to speak, read, and write the native language(s) of those they serve, (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Armenian, Cantonese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Khmer (Cambodian), Korean, Lao, Mandarin, Panjabi, Russian, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese).
  • Lived experience: Individuals with histories of incarceration working as community health/peer workers can make a unique contribution to the responsiveness and effectiveness of service delivery for these populations.
