Oregon Surgical Specialists, PC is seeking an experienced full-time LPN or RN to join our busy surgical practice. This position is for a FOUR-DAY WORK WEEK with no call and no weekends!!!!

Position: Triage Nurse

Location: OSS Clinic - THIS IS AN ON-SITE POSITION

Hours: (Full-Time)

  • Monday, Thursday, Friday: 0800 - 1700
  • Tuesday: 0800 - 1500
  • Wednesdays off!

Summary:

The triage nurse provides professional, safe and effective telephone assessment of patients and is responsible for coordinating with our surgeons and physician assistants to determine and give medical advice over the telephone. The triage nurse collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure high-quality patient care delivery and achievement of optimal patient outcomes.

Essential Functions:

Maintain and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards and techniques and apply this knowledge in accordance with the Oregon Surgical Specialists (OSS) operating policies and procedures and within the laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon.

Under the direction of the physician or physician assistant, the triage nurse will:

  • Accurately document caller information, nurse advice and outcomes in OSS’s EHR
  • Maintain confidentiality, HIPAA and PHI compliance
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, providers and co-workers
  • Maintain and contribute to a collaborative, professional and ethical work environment
  • Monitor task buckets as assigned or directed
  • Assist with prescription refills
  • Actively participate in team meetings and engage in the processes of the phone teams and clinical teams
  • Participate in staff meetings and continuing education events
  • Perform general clerical duties, as required for position
  • Provide general nursing care to patients
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
  • Provide in-person nursing and clinic support functions, as needed

Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • At least one year experience as an LPN or RN
  • Prior wound care or post-operative nursing experience highly preferred
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish)highly preferred – with additional pay differential

  • Must be capable of making independent nursing decisions
  • Must be able to work well under stress and relate to the general public, coworkers and physicians in a tactful manner
  • Ability to provide prompt, accurate service to internal and external customers.
  • Has working knowledge of clinic’s exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct and indirect care to patients
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide clinical treatments
  • Has basic knowledge of ICD-9 (ICD-10) and CPT/HCPS coding procedures
  • Has strong typing skills and working knowledge of computer systems, particularly with a windows-based environment. Experience with electronic health records, preferred. Experience with Epic EHR, preferred
  • Possesses basic knowledge of medical office documentation standards and medical terminology
  • Displays excellent customer services skills at all times

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current Oregon LPN or RN license required
  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred

Physical Demands

The Triage Nurse will be assigned a workstation, computer terminal, and telephonic equipment in a regular office environment. The nurse must have good manual and finger dexterity, excellent verbal and written communication, hearing and visual acuity and color distinction. The nurse must sit in front of a computer screen for prolonged periods of time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and meet all physical demands.
