Job Description:
The TARP (Transition Assistance and Relapse Prevention) Navigator with the Mental Health Advocacy and Education Program is responsible for providing assistance and support to adult clients with mental illness who are graduating or transferring out of Full Service Partnership services. The overall goal of the TARP Navigator is to help adults with mental illness succeed in moving from wrap-around services into a more traditional self-supported system of care, assisting clients in creating and implementing a personalized strategy for this transitional period. The TARP Navigator position provides social support, skills training, and assists in connecting FSP graduates with appropriate service providers in the community, facilitating and supporting their engagement in mental health treatment and other wellness services using a trauma informed approach. The TARP Navigator will uphold and promote the program philosophy in all duties performed.

Required Experience:

Have lived experience with mental illness. Graduates of the FSP, BHTC and HOT programs all encouraged to apply. Good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and oral/written communication skills. Able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business. Must be responsible and reliable and possess problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations and to interact effectively with diverse populations. Basic knowledge of mental illness, most TMHA programs and a strong grounding in TMHA’s mission. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational ability are critical to this position. Conditions of employment include: Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health. Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees. Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including booster, or request a medical exemption with a healthcare provider document advising against the vaccine OR an exemption based on a strongly held religious belief or practice per the California Department of Public Health. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
