Transport Operations Manager (Jacksonville, IL) Job at The Maschhoffs
Duties & Functions:
- Lead a crew of livestock drivers and truck wash personnel, including scheduling loads and work shifts, dispatching drivers, handling after-hours operational issues, time and payroll management, employee relations, and performance management.
- Serve as the main point of contact for drivers while performing daily activities to ensure customer loads are delivered in a safe and timely manner.
- Manage the fleet maintenance program to ensure reliable vehicles while controlling costs.
- Maintain inventory of parts and supplies, ordering replacements as needed.
- Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and internal customers.
- Receive after hour calls and develop strategy to cover after-hours emergency service.
- Plan daily wash schedule and maintain all trailer wash records for verification.
- Recruit, interview and hire personnel as needed and uses Performance Management to communicate expectations, drive performance and reinforce positive behaviors to the team.
- Train employees on how to power wash the entire trailer including gates, ramps, ceilings, I-beams and floors following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Oversee new hire ride-along training in the field conducted by the Livestock Driver Lead using the New Driver Training Syllabus.
- Champion the safety program for drivers, truck shop and truck washes, report all accidents and/or work-related injuries and comply with all company personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Responsible for routine maintenance on buildings and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Associate of Science of Agriculture, Business, or related field (preferred)
Experience
Minimum of five years in supervisory experience and/or management
Class A CDL is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Vehicles and their related mechanical systems
- OSHA Safety regulations and company policies
- FMCSA safety regulations (preferred)
Skilled In:
- Washing equipment with high powered washers
- Hooking/unhooking various commercial Trucks/trailer units, operating the landing gear, operating the 5th wheel release lever
- Mechanics & Electrical basics
- Basic Computer disciplines: Microsoft Office Word, Office Excel, Microsoft Office Power Point
- Effective communication(written and oral)
- Problem solving
- Leadership
Ability to:
- Manually handle material and equipment requiring a lifting/handling force up to 50-75 pounds
- Work in an unpredictable environment including irregular and tight schedules, temperature and weather extremes, and varying physical demands
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems
- Work Independently as well as in a team environment
- Learn new software
- Exercise sound judgement in practical matters
- Adapt to change
- Teach, coach, and influence others while maintaining effective relationships
