Victim Advocate – Swanston House - Youngstown, OH

Shift: Part Time, Day shift & Afternoon shift

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

• Provide face-to-face crisis intervention at COMPASS’ Swanston Commons office to offer emotional support and other assistance. Provide advocacy, and information and referral about other community resources, including other COMPASS’ programs. Offer accurate information about all aspects of victimization/legal processes as applicable. Conduct appropriate needs assessments and screenings.
• Attend program staff meeting and supervisory meetings as scheduled.

• Provide support regarding tasks of daily living; coach youth regarding transition into adulthood; assist with housing, transportation, education, employment, and training access and benefits; employ best-practice engagements.
• Maintain drop-in center; maintain and supervise the physical operations and facility while present; assist with walk-ins to the drop-in center providing appropriate care and advocacy services.
• Facilitate psychoeducation groups, support groups, and discussion groups with other COMPASS staff and community partners. Assist with the scheduling of groups and in-house presentations and enrichment opportunities

Qualifications:

• College education preferred.
• Experience in counseling, social work, criminal justice or related field preferred

• Will need to complete 40 hours of core victim advocate training. Thirty hours every two years thereafter are required and need to be maintained

Miscellaneous requirements: Criminal background check; Pre-employment drug screen; Clear driving record; First Aid/CPR. Non-judgmental, strong oral and written communication skills, High stress due to timeliness, frequency and volume of interpersonal interaction, and potential crisis situations.

Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
