General Definition and Conditions of Work
The Carrboro Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Resources Department is seeking qualified individuals to umpire Youth Baseball games. Candidates with previous umpiring experience are preferred, but umpiring experience is not required. Baseball/Softball playing or coaching experience and sound baseball rules knowledge is highly desirable. Play is governed by local league rules and National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rules. Training will be provided prior to the season.
Spring Baseball games are primarily played Friday evenings and Saturdays April through early June with some weekday evenings games. Individuals hired may also have the potential to umpire during our Fall League (September-October). Age groups include 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Flexible scheduling exists with umpires being assigned 2-6 games per week.

Pay Rate: $35.00 - $45.00 per game

Special Requirements
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, running, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for quick decision-making in applying rules and for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
