Job Summary

The Youth Tobacco Prevention Coordinator will assist in the planning, implementing and evaluating the evidence-based strategies towards preventing youth from starting tobacco use. The Youth Tobacco Prevention Consultant will work within the Tobacco Prevention Program (YEAH) to manage the operation of the tobacco prevention activities within Kenai Peninsula School District (KPBSD).

Essential Functions

  • Implement evidence-based tobacco prevention and control strategies and curricula to support the YEAH program.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with school personnel within the KPBSD, community tobacco prevention champions, and Tobacco Prevention and Control staff working across the Central Peninsula region, the Gulf Coast Public Health region, and the State of Alaska.
  • Participate with local tobacco coalition to support the outreach goals as outlined in the Tobacco Prevention and Control Grant, develop and implement evaluation strategies and submit reports as required.
  • Provide youth recruitment and training annually to middle and high school students to sustain the implementation of YEAH.
  • Collaborate with Wellness Director and partnering agencies to oversee teen leaders in conducting outreach activities for national and state campaigns such as Through with Chew Week, Red Ribbon Week, Take Down Tobacco, Great American Smoke Out, and local community gatherings.
  • Support the guidance of youth in education outreach, policy advocacy and peer education in the KPBSD schools.
  • In collaboration with the local tobacco coalition, develop responsive strategies to identify trends in tobacco use.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates Degree in Public Health, Human Services or related field preferred

Experience:

  • Knowledge of current evidence-based tobacco prevention and control strategies

License/Certification

  • Ability to obtain Not On Tobacco (N-O-T) Facilitator Certification
  • Valid Alaska Driver's license and remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
  • CPR and AED Certification

Special Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with an ability to work with diverse group of people and multidisciplinary teams

Preferred:

  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
