Opportunity Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) works closely with the President / Owner and interacts with the Senior Management Group. The CFO is responsible for all matters related to finance, accounting, administration, management reporting, human resources, budgeting, compliance, taxes, insurance, and risk management.

The CFO manages and directs the company's financial and administrative affairs and provides senior management with updates, insights, and recommendations.

The CFO prepares and/or directs the preparation of management reports, which summarize, report, and forecast the business activity and financial position of the company.

This position reports to the President and has five direct reports.

Responsibilities are broad in scope and include mentoring the administrative staff and building a robust financial and organizational structure focused on supporting the company's evolving needs.

Responsibilities:

The primary role of the CFO is to manage the finance, accounting and administrative function and support the President and senior management group in aiding in the development and execution of the company's plans and strategic direction. The CFO will also support the executive team in planning initiatives and project evaluation, with appropriate analysis and recommendations provided.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supports the President to refine and execute the strategies necessary to meet the company's growth objectives by providing recommendations with the ability to see "beyond the numbers".
  • Ensures the month-end close is performed timely and accurately - including multi-division and multi-company consolidations.
  • Reviews financial statements monthly to ensure accuracy.
  • Provides monthly reports and presentations to the management team showing the company's financial position and progress towards established goals. Explains significant variances with actionable insights into the causes.
  • Performs cash flow forecasting and efficient working capital management to ensure the company always has access to sufficient liquidity.
  • Ensures access to appropriate financing by understanding requirements, working with banks and lenders to secure financing solutions, and maintaining lender relationships, including providing the required reporting to lenders.
  • Develops and maintains a system of internal controls that minimize risk and safeguard the company and the company assets.
  • Oversees and develops the HR function, including employee benefits, programs, and policies.
  • Identifies and recommends revenue enhancement and cost-saving opportunities by studying economic, industry, and market trends.
  • Provides financial information, analyses, and business models to determine the cost-effectiveness, profitability and viability of growth plans, projects, and new initiatives.
  • Supports the executive team by developing and leveraging forward-looking models and projections to project future staffing needs accurately, capital requirements, and investments and provide insights to guide decisions.
  • Ensures timely financial and tax and compliance filings per IRS, and other government agency requirements and regulations.
  • Manages and coordinates the annual company-wide budget process.
  • Oversees the annual company CPA review - with minimal or no adjustments.
  • Coaches staff and sets performance goals for the finance and administrative group, which are clear, achievable, measurable, and tied to overall company goals. Monitors performance towards such goals.

Background Requirements:

  • Must have 10 plus years of accounting experience.
  • Transportation, and/or logistics industry experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience working as a CFO, Controller, or Vice President of Finance.
  • 5 years of management experience.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting, GAAP, and specifically multi-company consolidations.
  • Analytical skills, including P&L, budget planning, pricing techniques, and the ability to create revenue and other forecasts.
  • Ability to effectively motivate and lead the accounting and administrative staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain credibility with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to present and explain financial and operational information in in a clear and concise manner, both orally and through presentation materials.
  • A dependable organized manager who is adaptable, open minded, with a strong work ethic, and sense of humor. Ability to be flexible and do "what needs to be done" with a "roll-up your sleeves" approach when required.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting finance, economics, or a related discipline is required.
  • A CPA or CMA designation is highly preferred.
