Siletz Valley School is seeking talented and skillful educators passionate about teaching kids and helping them to learn. Siletz Valley Charter School (SVS) is seeking a Full-time (1.0 FTE) Culinary Arts Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year.

Description of Duties

Applicants for culinary arts teaching position must have a willingness and ability to teach high school students the skills of culinary curriculum. Have experience in catering for large groups

Specific Job Duties

  • Responsible for teaching: sanitation, nutrition, culinary skills, career opportunities and etc. to high school students wishing to pursue a career as a culinary chef.
  • Responsible for teaching students food preparation, food production, and the overall structure and work flow of a kitchen.
  • Responsible for teaching students about supplies and equipment used in the culinary arts field.
  • Responsible for teaching students about quality and cost containment standards.
  • Responsible for teaching students about inventory, supplies, pricing, menu planning, safety, and sanitation issues that arise in the restaurant business.
  • Creates a cooking curriculum to be implemented with students which builds on knowledge based experience
  • Manage state certified nutritional program operations and budget for K-12 breakfast and lunch

Knowledge, Skills and Talents

  • Able to make industry connections promoting service learning, cooperative education, and work based learning opportunities for the students.
  • Ability to deliver engaging and informed curriculum.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and the overall structure and work flow of a kitchen;
  • Knowledge of culinary facilities and safety guidelines;
  • Knowledge of supplies and equipment;
  • Ability to follow curriculum guidelines.
  • Ability to lead and train others.
  • Ability to work with diverse students and must possess sensitivity to student cultural needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Education or relevant field preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of experience in formal and/or informal educational settings.
  • Teaching certification, CTE Charter Registry or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification, Food Handler’s Card

Physical Demands

Working in a kitchen involves exposure to some unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, fumes, dirt, smoke, loud noise, and unpleasant odors. There is moderate physical activity required. A culinary arts teacher should be able to lift 50 pounds and be fit enough to stand and/or walk for most of the work day.

Benefits: Employer paid PERS, Medical, Dental, Vision insurance is pro-rated based on FTE.

Specific start date and salary may be subject to change upon approval of the 2022-2023 school calendar.

  • Posted salary based on a 185 day contract.

Pay: $47,763.98 - $75,738.23 per year
