WHAT WE ARE SEEKING

Design Staff (Interior Design)

Assists senior designers with development of design solutions, researches and selects colors/finishes/materials, performs site surveys, maintains resource materials. Works under the direction of mid- to senior-level interior designers. Researches interior products. Applies established interior design standards. Assists senior-level designers in the development of design solutions for review. Performs routine checking and/or verification tasks. Researches and selects colors/finishes/materials. Supports business development activities through assistance with aids such as finish boards or PowerPoint presentations. Performs site survey and documentation. Maintains resource materials. Is learning computer-aided drawing, presentation tools, and basic office software. Has exposure to interior design specifications, calculations, and industry standards.

Communication

  • Develops an understanding of conceptual, schematic, design development construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects.
  • Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow.
  • Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person.
  • Develops proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software.
  • Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats under supervision of Project team leadership.
  • Maintains an on-going vigilance about self-checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership.
  • Adheres to established project schedules.
  • Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping.
  • Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
  • Develops the ability to present to clients both physically and virtually.
  • Develops knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes
  • Represents JCJ to manufacturing vendors for product update visits, lunch and learns for JCJ staff and at industry functions on a local level.
  • Responsible for maintaining the resource library


Design, Visualization and Space Planning

  • Develops creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.
  • Learns and embraces the architectural design approach as established by the Project Leadership and demonstrates the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.
  • Implements design direction that is cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines.
  • Develops a working knowledge of the conventions of space planning; including proper/legal clearances, awareness of human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and three-dimensional implications of planning.
  • Assists with development of design solutions. Selects and presents multiple schemes to internal and client team. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects.
  • Develops facile computer aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support development and presentation of design concepts. Share knowledge of these applications with team members.
  • Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate colors, finishes and materials from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; coordinates with team members, and incorporates accurate information into drawings. On certain projects, delegates the task of selections to junior staff.
  • Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards, visual slide-deck presentations. This may require coordination with JCJ’s business development and marketing teams
  • Develops the ability to select and present multiple FF&E schemes to internal and client team. Understands appropriate application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products being recommended for use within projects.


Delineation, Detailing and Documentation

  • Learns to produce building project documentation from concept through construction documents. Obtains and assembles data to complete drawings.
  • Learns to create detail drawings for such items as architectural millwork, furniture case goods, custom furniture, tile and stonework.
  • Learns to develop Interior Finish lists and Finish location plans and elevations. Develops awareness and application of industry construction best practices. Remains current with JCJ Technical Bulletins.
  • Learns to produce construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization.
  • Adheres to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization.
  • Participates in designated site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions; coordinates with Project Team.
  • Learns how to accurately perform numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, furniture and device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes. Assembles collected information into budget formats that allow for assigning costs.
  • Acquires knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry wide applications and impact upon space planning. Learns how to interpret applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes.


Specifications, Resource Management and Budgeting.

  • Actively maintains resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries.
  • Develops and refines knowledge of Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment (FF&E) and Material costs.
  • Develops FF&E specifications and FF&E location plans and budgets using JCJ established software and formats.
  • Assists in preparation and bid tabulation of FF&E bid documents under the supervision of Senior Leadership.
  • Learns methods for creating Interior Finish lists and tagging of Finish location plans and elevations. Coordinates with JCJ Specifications team.
  • Learns methods for making financial recommendations to clients.
  • Learns methods for coordination with 3rd party FF&E procurement companies.
  • Implements cost management strategies at the direction of Senior Leadership.


Construction Administration

  • Participates in value engineering exercises.
  • Learns and assists in answering RFI’s, under direction of Senior Leadership
  • Using JCJ software, learns and assists in shop drawing, submittal review and file management for construction and FF&E procurement under direction of Senior Leadership.


Other

  • Assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested.


Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design


Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

  • Revit, AutoCAD current versions
  • MS Office Suite – Excel, Word, MS Project
  • Sketch Up (preferred)
  • Adobe Suite(preferred)
  • Google Earth (preferred)


Experience: 0
-3 years’ experience in interior design, design management and/or design services (2 years preferred)
