About Our Job
Use your matchmaking skills to match available transit resources of bus operators with buses to provide transit service to the community while ensuring that all Federal, State, and local regulations are adhered to, and customer transportation needs are satisfied.
Job Description:
  • Maintain delivery of services. In this role, you're responsible to maintain schedules and routing in support of the services and timetables published by Transit. This is accomplished by monitoring real-time (GPS) tracking of equipment, weather and traffic conditions; direct involvement with Bus Operators and Road Supervisors via radio; routing/re-routing/directing and redirecting the movement of revenue service vehicles, shuttle vehicles, and Bus Operators in accordance with Dispatch Supervision, available information, and Transit management’s intentions.
  • Answer phones in a timely manner, provide accurate information to the public. Forward calls and/or messages to the requested or appropriate party.
  • Review daily Fixed Route transit requirements and changes operator and bus assignments as needed, under direction of Dispatch Supervisor. Assign overtime work following current selection and recording procedures. Notify management of shortages.
  • Process trip sheets, passenger counts, mileage, missed trips. Complete attendance and occurrence reports and enters absences into Trapeze.
  • Update forms, handouts and postings. Keep all dispatch and driver information available and up to date. Maintain electronic forms and creates posters and forms as needed or requested.
  • Coordinate emergency response to accidents / incidents. All other pertinent duties and training that may be assigned.
Work Hours: Transit operational hours are Monday - Saturday, 4:15 a.m.-11:30 p.m., Sunday 6:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m.
As part of the scheduling team, you will bid for your monthly schedule. A typical week could be:
  • 2 days of opening at 4:30 a.m.
  • 1 day of 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • 2 days of 12 p.m.-8 p.m.
  • 2 days off
Work schedules may vary due to rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience with customer contact

Preferred Qualifications:
Transit dispatch experience is preferred.

Job Competencies: Customer relation skills, data entry and spreadsheet skills and ability to communicate over a two-way radio.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
