The Information Systems Security Manager is responsible for managing the information security program of Universal Avionics (UA). This person will ensure UA products, solutions, and services are secured by design, in use, and through partnership with customers and other third-party entities. They will oversee the performance of risk assessments, management and communication of vulnerabilities and threats, delivery of awareness and training, quality of release deliverables, and engagement with leadership team. The Information Systems Security Manager will engage Engineering, Operations, Quality, Marketing, Sales, and fellow Information Security team colleagues to ensure security is integrated across all functions.

This position can be based in either Tucson, AZ, or Duluth, GA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and administer Windows-based servers (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SQL, IIS), various application servers, VMware servers, and Office 365 environment.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and administer network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls), wireless access points, VPN endpoints, and Avaya/Skype phone systems.
  • Maintain, support and administer data/telecommunications services including: Internet service, WAN connections, local and long-distance telephone services, and wireless phone service.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade server systems and network equipment.
  • Update and patch applications, servers, and network equipment to provide stable and secure operations.
  • Evaluates server and network systems against requirements and makes recommendations.
  • Monitor server, network, power, environmental, and data service systems to deliver required operational uptime.
  • Ensure that service interruptions are resolved in a manner which meets departmental and contractual standards. This position is on-call 24/7 for system-down emergencies.
  • Communicates and coordinates scheduled downtime with users. Provide regular communication to impacted parties during an outage.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor IT Support Specialist staff to develop their technical and customer support skills. Resolves escalated technical issues from IT Support Specialists.
  • Ensure that site data is consistently backed up and sent offsite. Perform data restore testing and restore operational data as required.
  • Maintain and update documentation for operational systems and processes.
  • Coordinate disaster recovery testing and lead recovery efforts when necessary.
  • Plan and design security solutions that enable the organization to identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Define and develop security requirements using risk assessments, threat modeling, testing, and analysis of existing systems.
  • Develop security integration plans to protect existing infrastructure and incorporate future solutions.
  • Design action plans for policy creation and governance, system hardening, monitoring incident response, disaster recovery, and emerging cybersecurity threats.
  • Utilize security information and event management (SIEM), data loss prevention (DLP), and intrusion prevention systems (IPS) in solution designs.
  • Work with stakeholders to encourage the adoption of security-compatible software designs and best practices.
  • Stay current with latest intelligence from law enforcement and other sources of cyber threat information.

  • Working knowledge of installing, operating, maintaining, and supporting various local/networked personal computers, printers, scanners, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Working knowledge of installing and supporting various desktop and server operating systems, mobile operating systems, and office productivity suites (MS Office).
  • Principles and knowledge of network cabling.
  • Principles and working knowledge of networking equipment including switches and routers.
  • Principles and knowledge of proper cable termination standards and techniques used in both the audiovisual and computer networking industries.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to work productively and cooperatively on projects, fully participate in appropriate meetings, and carry out assigned tasks in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with customers to identify their needs, solve their problems, and help them meet their goals.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum guidance, to be a self-starter, and to make independent judgments.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, as well as a firm commitment to service.
  • Ability to perform time-sensitive and complex tasks.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, plus five (5) to seven (7) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Cisco Certified Network Administration (CCNA) Certified
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certified

English language fluency. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Work Environment
The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
